Surprised no one posted this yet. Doherty finally succumbed to her stage IV breast cancer, which had metastasized to her brain last year, I believe. She had a tumultuous career and life, really, but this is so sad, so young.
RIP. |

R.I.P.
Loved her BH90210 and Charmed. Both shows weren't the same when she left. |

I believe it was announced this morning and was overshadowed by much bigger national news. |

I know she's much more well-known for other things, but I loved her turn in 1989's "Heathers", which is how dark comedies should be done. |

I agree 90210 and Charmed were never the same after she left.
Oddly enough I remember her first from this short lived sitcom "Our House which starred Wilford Brimley
May she RIP |

RIP, so sad. Another 90210 alum gone. 90210 was THE show of my high school years. Every week we all talked about it the next day. |

I actually saw this movie after I became her fan in 90210. When my friend saw that I was a huge fan of hers, he told me about the movie. So I got on my bike and went down to the local video store to rent this movie. LOL. Ah the memories. |

The casting of this movie was just great. The actor who played the school principal (John Ingle) was an actor I remember seeing in a lot of guest starring roles on TV in the 80's, and later in movies in the 90's. And of course, the actor who played the priest (Glenn Shadix) also played Otho in "Beetlejuice." (Ironically, Ingle would go on to often play priests in his film roles in the 90's.) But of course, Winona Ryder and all of the "Heathers" pulled it off. As did Christian Slater.
Anyway, to turn this back to Doherty, when Ryder's Veronica asks Doherty's Heather "why are you such a mega-b*tch?", the response is one of the funniest things I had ever heard up to that point in my life. "Because I can be" would've been great by itself, but after a brief pause and then replying "Veronica, why are you pulling my d*ck?", I lost it. That was crazy unexpected and absolutely hilariously delivered by Doherty.
As I alluded to earlier, I think she had some contentious working relationships on her TV shows, but she had an undeniable presence and talent on camera. May she RIP. |

That was prime Winona Ryder.
I remember not knowing what to make of "Heathers" when I first saw it in 9th grade. Saw it again in college and liked it a whole lot more. _________________ KOBE |

Wynoa Ryder was awesome and so was Christian Slater. Speaking of Slater, he reminded me of a young Jack Nicholson. I always thought he was going to be bigger than what he became to be.
Shannon was always a take no crap from anyone type of person. I think that played against her. Especially in those days. My thought of why she was getting let go from the shows at the time was she didn't want to give in to the assaults like some of the other females actors went through. |

It isn't just you. He was anointed that in his heyday. With regard to his career, I'm positive that if True Romance came out after Pulp Fiction, his stardom would have taken off. Tarantino was only the writer for it but it was 100% a "Tarantino" flick. Unfortunately Tarantino's star didn't blow up until Pulp Fiction for the masses. True Romance would have been a way bigger box office hit if it followed on the heels of Pulp Fiction. _________________ KOBE |

I was more entertained from True Romance than I was from Pulp Fiction. And I definitely remember the Slater-Nicholson thing when he was a young actor. The sound of his voice and the cadence of it, even. |

For a few minutes he was actually dead but they were able to revive him. He mentions this in his book. |

Back in the mid/late 80's, I worked at a company and there was a guy there doing some intern-type work, I became ""at-work-friends" with, he later dated Shannen and was all over the news, as I think he was the first guy she started getting her negative reputation with. After I saw she had passed the other day, I looked here up and saw his name... Dean Factor...! |
