Compared to the iconic MJ statue, this Kobe statue sucks. Doesn’t look good and I don’t think did him any favors. Putting 3 statues around the arena seems silly too. It dilutes the impact of just one iconic one.

Kobe my favorite player of all time but big thumbs down on this project

I'm not an expert in art. I don't know how to grade this stuff.
I hope you at least go into the next 2 with an open mind. You might like/love one of them.

The Los Angeles Lakers are unveiling a statue featuring Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna in a private ceremony Friday.

Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported news of the unveiling, which will be Bryant's second statue outside of Crypto.com Arena. His first statue was unveiled in February.

Why does Kobe look like a homeless Dave Chappelle?

He wore that to one of the games he attended courtside with Gigi.

This is lovely. And much much better than the one that I saw and posted in the Kobe thread. I don't know if that's a fake or if that's unfinished or what. I liked the concept but his face looked funky in that other one. This one is nicely done.

Ngl, he do kinda look like Tyrone Biggums.

I honestly thought and hoped it would resemble something like this -

Would have been better if the man in the statue had Kobe’s face.
I don’t know whose face it is, but it’s not Kobe.

Love the sentiment but the statue sucks. And the wings are tacky. Let's be subtle and respectful instead.

(bleep) the guy who made these statues. seriously, (bleep) him and the organization who commissioned them

Men in the 1930s who had more fingers than teeth dangled across a gusty cliffside in south dakota. Using dynamite and jackhammers that were made with 1930s technology, they were able to put a visage of Abraham Lincoln that looked JUST LIKE Abe onto a massive granite unit! They were paid $8/day.

What trash. I read somewhere that he is going to bestow yet a third atrocity upon the http://www.crypto.com arena? These Busslings need to go.

I'm not sure about this most recent one, but the first Kobe statue (which most of you also hated) was literally made by the same people that made the MJ, Kareem, West, Magic, Chick, and Dirk statues (among many others):

So anyone trying to spin this as some anti-Jeanie/Lakers org propaganda is way off base. Take it up with the actual artists.

I didn't notice the wings until I saw a news story about the statue last night. I'm not a fan of the wings I wish those had been left off.

Yeah, the thought behind it is beautiful but that final result is pretty rough to say the least. Having him look like a homeless Joe Budden isn't what I expected. Kind of sad to be a clear as day 0-2 imo on statues for the Man. I'd take a bunch of the Street Art Memorials from around the World over these statues.

It might be time for the lady to retire from doing these big time statues if this is what she is considering "top of the line" work.

I love the concept of the statue but yeah, it's not very good

I mean, people in the 1500s were doing it much better
