Personally carlsbad.But it depends on how close to the water/beach you are. Both are great.

My family (Father etc SoCal'ers, & me, etc NorCal'ers) used to have regular vacations at Calsbad St Beach and then Doheny St Beach. Both were great and we have many,many fond memories. My kids keep saying they want to start it back up, but it's on them and progress is slooow.
