Agreed man....and it feels like even this was like pulling teeth for her to post this. One of those messages that seems genuine upon first glance but really isnt.
Her true colors were on display and loud and clear today. There should be a championship level celebration in the streets the day she’s no longer the owner. She should be ashamed of herself the way she treated Jerry for so many years. Today was just the final slap in the face.
Embarrassed and disappointed in the org’s statements. Everyone else has done their part and yet the Lakers — the raison d’etre for some 40+ years of Jerry’s life, the organization most completely and utterly shaped by the man who is quite literally the Association’s logo — have put out a paltry, dispassionate statement. The kind you’d expect the org to make in honor of some other franchise’s long time GM. We had more to say when Russell died.
(bleep) nepo babies.
LOL. West died as an employee of the Clippers. Lakers did what was appropriate.
NO.
If you ask anyone who you associate Jerry West with it is the Lakers.
Jerry West is a LAKER.
Our owner is an idiot. This was an opportunity for her to do something nice for the fan base and show that she didn't forget how to appreciate the people who made the Lakers.
Typical dumas Jeanie. Another check on the failure list after the Hurley dud
Dude. Jerry spent 40 years with the Lakers (20 under the Buss family) - then he left, of his own volition. The Lakers then employed West's kid for an additional 20 years, until he, too, left voluntarily.
The Lakers retired his number, built him a statue and paid him & his family tens of millions of dollars . . . and people here are (bleep) about an IG post. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

Jerry West is one of the main reasons the Lakers, for years, were the gold standard of NBA teams. Be at peace Mr. West and thanks for making me a fan of the game and the Lakers _________________ Not a legend

Lol. Are you Linda Rambis?
Legends of other teams and even the Lakers have gotten paid by the team, but have gotten way better send offs when they pass than the words shared by the Lakers.
You defend ownership a lot, but word is out and you don't have more insight than the industry. _________________ Previously CamReddish

It's pure speculation that Ryan left "voluntarily". You think he wanted to go to a dead-end organization like the Pistons and not stay in the place where he had immense success as a scout? An incompetent FO, pressure and animosity towards his father is what made him leave. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

That ‘96 master class in roster construction is the first time I realized there was a game within the game. RIP to an absolute GOAT exec and it saddens me we couldn’t t keep him in the building.
RIP to a true Laker Legend & Kob finally gets some competition up there 🫗
Traded Anthony Peeler (who I loved as Sedale's sidekick), Lynch, Vlade for scraps and I remember people up in arms as to why West would do that. Little did we know it was all to create wiggle room in order to offer Shaq just a little bit more than what ORL had on the table...all the while gaining the pick to land Kobe - who he thought had the greatest pre-draft workout he had ever seen. He sicked OG Michael Cooper on Bean and that 17 year old busted that ass. It was then he knew that he had to draft Kobe by all means.
People here are citing what he did for GSW but don't forget how he transformed that Grizz org. His fingerprints have been firmly left there. Funny how he simultaneously helped his former club by giving us Pau but also landing lil bro Marc at the same time.
All things considered, Jerry West might very well be the greatest Laker of all time.
He bridged that gap from Minni to LA as a player. Suffered all those losses in the Finals to the hated ones only to finally win it in '72. Responsible for the Showtime Lakers making it the global brand that it is today. He gave us Magic, Worthy, Shaq, Kobe, Pau, and even his son Ryan. He wanted to come back but instead went to the Clippers to draft SGA. All because of some petty ish. But I digress.....
RIP to the Logo - The greatest Laker of all time. _________________ The butter's hard and the eggs are chillin' in the dark.

I don't think they needed "to do anything else". It's just sad and it's a sad reminder of how fractured they let that relationship become.
I personally you know I was posting that they had the special for Jerry West and that Phil Jackson was on it speaking and you know he spoke live like he was alive segment in this show. And I totally forgot that Phil Jackson was part of the catalyst for why the relationship fell apart so and that since it was kind of odd that he was on the show.
But like I just read Mark Madson's tribute to West and it was SO heartfelt. And most of the other statements from people have been SO heartfelt because you know he did so much for the NBA in general. Not to mention making the Lakers franchise what it is (was) as both a player and an executive.
It's very sad that the office of the Lakers obviously doesn't really care. Pelinka or whoever it was you know the PR team but I'm guessing it's under Pelinka's direction that made that first two sentence statement on behalf of the Lakers didn't care. And then Jeannie's (yes her name is spelled wrong my phone always gets her spelling wrong and I'm not fixing it right now) statement of a couple of sentences several hours later obviously she didn't care. Those statements sounded like something I might've made if I found out that a past coworker passed away. Those were not statements of grieving someone who is important to you. Actually I think the best comparison was made here on LG that someone was saying they used exactly the same graphic and made exactly the same type of post when Darius Morris passed away.
Been busy, and have not been able to follow all the tributes flowing in, but did our new potential dipsht coach say anything? Especially after Jerry incinerated him a couple of years back for his comments.
Name the EOY award to Jerry West award
Name the Lakers hardwood to the Jerry West court
Add 44 to the NBA logo
Have the Lakers wear a patch with 44 on it next year
Please knock off the personal insults because someone has a different opinion than you. If you think hurling insults at other Laker fans respects the memory of Jerry West, you're wrong.
Sorry to hear, rest in peace Mr West. I wish the Lakers had the wisdom to bring you back as a consultant and reunite you with Mitch Kupchack once more when they had the chance.
Not sure if you folks have watched this. I discovered this clip today by accident. It was posted right after Jerry died.
It revealed the beef between Jerry and the Lakers organization since the Jack Kent Cooke days. This is the first time I've heard of some of these fights.
Lakers to have No. 44 band on uniforms in Jerry West's honor
play
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Lakers will honor Jerry West's No. 44 for all 82 games this upcoming season.
The team will wear a band with West's No. 44 on the left shoulder of their uniforms for the 2024-25 season, the Lakers announced Tuesday.
West, who played all 14 years of his Hall of Fame career with the Lakers and later served as a coach and highly successful executive with the organization, died in June at the age of 86.
Considered one of the greatest shooting guards ever to play, West led L.A. to nine NBA Finals appearances, winning the championship in 1971-72. He was a 14-time All-Star, and his average of 27.03 points per game ranks No. 8 in league history.
Nicknamed "Mr. Clutch" for his penchant for delivering in big moments, West was named to the All-NBA team 12 times and was the 1969 NBA Finals MVP as part of a losing team -- the first year that award was given out and still the only time it has gone to a player on the runner-up.
West was the architect of the "Showtime" Lakers of the 1980s that won five titles and the formation of the Kobe Bryant-Shaquille O'Neal tandem that went on to win three straight championships.
The Lakers also announced Tuesday that they will honor West on opening night of the regular season when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 22 with a West No. 44 jersey giveaway for the fans.

Succinctly captures the issues. Surprisingly, it ignored West's alleged feuds with teammates (Wilt was a world class ass hole). _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".
