Has anyone drove from California to Georgia before? Or even near Georgia like Northern Florida or Alabama. I have a question regarding the route I should take. I'll be making the drive out there next weekend.
After looking at google maps there are 2 options. Onlly 40 mile difference between the 2 routes so it's practically the same. I am just looking for a better route to take in terms of scenery and overall driving experience. I'll be driving alone.
via I-40 E 2,171 miles.
Notable major cities: Albuquerque, OKC, and Memphis.
via I-10 E and I-20 E 2,212 miles
Notable major cities: Phoenix and Dallas. |

Personally I would take I40, I’ve driven it before but not to Georgia. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

My skin tone is too dark to drive the southern route. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. You are here to create yourself, continuously. - Richard Feynman |

I moved from LA to Atlanta suburbs a few years ago. I drove my cars and took the I-10 to I-20 route. I thought it was beautiful once I got past western Texas. It was smooth sailing for me. Only caught a bit of traffic into Houston because they were doing construction. I'm sure the northern route is nice too, but I wanted to go through Texas and Louisiana. I actually ended up staying a night in Beaumont Texas. |

Sure, take the 10 east. Exit right before you get to Blythe. Grab a bite. While you are enjoying your meal, watch the documentaries called Easy Rider and Deliverance. Hop back on the 10 and take the 78 south, then west all the way back to the coast. Congratulations! You avoided having to travel through a bunch of godawful places that are on some kind of "belt". _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Fantastic take.
Also you get to avoid the district of MTG. |

I have never done this drive myself, but in looking at it I would lean towards the I-40. A bit more direct and a bit more North, there isn't much to see between Tuscon and Dallas along the 10. I would rather go through New Mexico on I-40 and then through the Ozarks after OKC before getting to Memphis. It will be greener for sure than the I-10 route.
Let us know what you think of the drive and which way you went after doing it, I would be curious. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Will do. I am leaning towards the I40 as well. It seems like there's more civilization on that route. LOL. Last thing I want is something happening in the middle of nowhere. |

I forgot to mention that a lot of the I40 is the old Route 66 which is still pretty cool, enjoy! _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

Took off this morning and now resting in Flagstaff AZ. I took a little detour to drive on Route 66 while listing to Route 66 by Depeche Mode. I know parts of I40 is Route 66 but I saw a sign that said historic Route 66 next exit. |
