I still remember being confused as to why we were willingly trading LO coming off a 6th man of the year award. Although obviously worth it for cp3. Seeing how his career and life went downhill after this almost trade made me realize why. LO had so many demons and the Lakers knew it. As good as he’d been he was always a ticking time bomb. I think he’s doing better now. Pau was also going to be shipped IIRC? Was it for Scola? Or am I making this up? |
It was pau and odom not bynum. Bynum would of still would of been traded for howard, I am pretty sure that is why it was veto'd. |

The reality was it was a horrible deal for The Hornets. I’m sad it was vetoed but I understand. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Eh we could argue that original trade was better for hornets than what they got after from clippers for paul. |

Gordon was considered a blue chipper at the time. The Hornets were trading away the best player in the deal but they weren’t even getting back Gasol. They were taking back a bunch of bloated salaries attached to middling players. I don’t think the deal they got from the Clippers was great either, but the package they were set to receive from LAL/HOU is about as bad as you can get for a star. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Odom was 6th man of the year/ Kevinmartin was 17-20 ppg scorer. Scola was solid player and dragic was starting to become decent player. I think they could of accepted these players and traded them for more than gordon/kaman/aminu. |

Just gonna disagree and assume you don't really remember how good Odom/Scola/Martin were at that time. Absolutely not middling players, that's a much more accurate description of Kaman and Aminu. Hornets went from 46 to 21 wins after that trade. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

They were solid role players but you expect more than that in return for an in-prime superstar. Gordon, at the time, was seen as at least having star potential. Gordon ended up having injuries and wasn’t star material but if we want to play hindsight look what happened to Lamar. These weren’t great trade packages but I’m not surprised the league turned down a Chris Paul trade headlined by Kevin Martin. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

Stern didn't reject the trade because of the return, the return from the Clippers was objectively worse. Aminu was coming off a rookie year where he averaged 5 points on 39/31 from the field and Kaman was always a watered down version of Al Jefferson. Eric Gordon was the same caliber as Kevin Martin. He rejected the trade because owners across the league were salty that the Lakers got better. Not to mention it was only a few years after the Pau heist. The Lakers got completely screwed on that deal. _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

Stern wanted the Hornets to continue to be bad so they can rig the lottery and give them the #1 pick. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was collusion with the Heat and part of a larger strategy to finally curb Kobe's success and make LeBron the center of the universe, or as a favor to Sterling.
Stern was shady. No two ways about it. If you want to understand why he did the things he did, it's best to reason about it with that presumption. And he continued to change his story every time he was asked about it. Arguing about the deals solely based on player and pick value underindexes on the surrounding circumstances. |

And in general, I think there's something really shady going on with that franchise. I don't think it's some incredible stroke of luck that they got Zion the year AD forced out to the Lakers, either. |

The trade was vetoed because the major market teams had agreed to revenue sharing and that trade would have cut the Lakers payroll. The small market teams didn’t want that to happen. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

There was probably some of that too. The Lakers were making out like bandits in that deal. They got the best player, actually saved money on the deal, and retained their best asset to complete a Howard trade (which the other owners rightly sniffed out.) And the Hornets don’t even get a good prospect in the deal? They just get role guys? The league shouldn’t have put themselves in the position they did, but once Stern was serving as the defacto owner such a lopsided deal to the league’s marquee franchise wasn’t going to happen. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

LeBron James has agreed to 4-year, $154M deal with Lakers, Klutch Sports says.

And the pain.

The Hornets are near a deal to send Chris Paul to the Lakers for Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, league source tells Y! Sports. |

Bynum would have still would have been traded for howard, I am pretty sure that is why it was veto'd. |
The reality was it was a horrible deal for The Hornets. I’m sad it was vetoed but I understand. |
The Clippers trade package was worse. |
By literally Stern's own admission. The earlier reasons for the veto was he wanted to Hornets to tank and rebuild. |

Odom/Kevin Martin/Scola/Dragic was worse than Gordon/Kaman/Aminu? |
Gordon was considered a blue chipper at the time. The Hornets were trading away the best player in the deal but they weren’t even getting back Gasol. They were taking back a bunch of bloated salaries attached to middling players. I don’t think the deal they got from the Clippers was great either, but the package they were set to receive from LAL/HOU is about as bad as you can get for a star. |
Just gonna disagree and assume you don't really remember how good Odom/Scola/Martin were at that time. Absolutely not middling players, that's a much more accurate description of Kaman and Aminu. Hornets went from 46 to 21 wins after that trade. |
The trade was vetoed because the major market teams had agreed to revenue sharing and that trade would have cut the Lakers payroll. The small market teams didn’t want that to happen. |
Ventura's right. Gilbert was the owner (bleep) the most about this deal. Oth teams had agreed to it....but Gilbert spoke in behalf of the small market teams and Stern stepped in. It would've been nice to see Nash, Kobe and Dwight. There was also talk of Omeka Okafor coming to LA....but that was never confirmed. |

I hope Lakers dont look dumb for this move. I'm not too worried about it though. He seemed okay in a summer league game but looked bad after that. Good luck to him |

No when they had douglas in instead of Comey or Cousey in who was actualy distributing the ball well Quincy and Hilton was feeding. Hilton rebinds me so much of Antwain Walker...he can catch fire from three..but also bully to the basket...If he has a semblance of success like scottie Pippen.....

You guys were gonna complain at whomever we cut, Traore or Castleton. People always find a reason to complain. I'm pretty sure someone will complain even if we cut Bronny. _________________ Lakers used to average one championship every four years but I'd gladly take one every ten years now. |

I’m interested to know were Brandon Ingram gets traded to, no way the Pelicans can expect a successful season if Ingram doesn’t want to be there and also get a max extension that he expects from the Pelicans. And the fact that he didn’t go to the Mini Camp when it was very Important to the Pelicans organization then that tells me that the relationship is beyond broken, and that this might not only be about money.
