Really bummed about this news. I had the great pleasure of working with Carl over the years. He was one of the leads actors on a show I edited, and then I worked with him as a Director on the show I currently do.

He was a really thoughtful, kind person and a true gentleman.

RIP Mr. Weathers. I'm going to really miss working with him again and hearing his great stories.

Carl Weathers, ‘Rocky’s’ Apollo Creed and ‘Mandalorian’ Actor, Dies at 76

Oh no! He's become such an icon in Star Wars the last few years as an actor and director on The Mandalorian.

He was such an iconic image of fitness, I never expected him to pass this soon.

R.I.P.

The glowing tributes coming in about him just speak to a man who was a gem. And of course, he had a remarkable screen presence. He truly made Apollo Creed larger than life. And, of course, he had so many other memorable roles. Just 76, damn. RIP, Mr. Weathers.

Wow he seemed so young and vibrant on The Mandalorian.

And let’s not forget he was part the manliest handshake ever captured on film.

This is surprising. It's ironic I recently rewatched Action Jackson. RIP

RIP. One the football-player-turned-actor who could actually act. Took his craft seriously.

RIP. Such a great actor.

Loved his character on the Mandalorian, Rocky, and Happy Gilmore. When I heard the news I thought of the ending scene on Happy Gilmore. When he was looking on from heaven standing next to Lincoln and the Crocadile.

He had such a regal and intelligent presence and really brought all those characters to life. Apollo Creed is iconic, as well as his various roles in Predator, Happy Gilmore etc. A true legend. RIP

Very much so.

It was always a pleasure to cut his scenes as an actor because he always gave strong and nuanced performances. And working with him as a director was a joy. He was relatively new at it when I first worked with him in that capacity (I think he had directed one episode of The Mandolorian at that point). But you could tell he had been studying and absorbing what it took to do the job over his career. He stepped right into the task admirably. He knew what he wanted, but was also very collaborative; respecting the skills of us editors. And delivered the footage to make it all work like he had been doing it for many years.

One of the few I have worked with who I would call the consummate professional.

What is so amazing about him is he owns every scene he is in. His acting is so good that even when he plays a villain, you want to cheer for him. I remember watching Rocky and thinking i wasn't happy when Rocky beat Apollo. Or in Happy Gilmore, he was serious at the same time funny as hell. The man knows how to act.

I had no idea he was a football player before today. He was on the Raiders too. Damn that's my team.

He played at Long Beach Poly with a co-worker's brother. The first time I met him we all talking and my friend mentioned it (thinking Carl probably wouldn't remember) and Carl lit up and was "Of course!" and started talking about him like it was yesterday.

Looks like trmiv already posted the clip further up.

And agreed, Predator is in my holy trinity of action franchises (the other 2 being Terminator and Alien).

He also played at San Diego State.

To me he will always be Apollo Creed, he was so great in that role and many others.

Not surprised to hear from DMR that he was a class act also, guy was just a general stud.

RIP Carl...

I have heard of the actor and never really saw his work unless you count those FanDuel commercials. He dated a woman who's father was a landlord of a couple I knew.

Still RIP

You haven't seen Rocky!?

If it's not your cup of tea, he was on Saturday Night Live in the 80s. SnL's Youtube channel has the skits online. He was pretty good in it.

Late actor Carl Weathers left behind a substantial amount for his two sons, Matthew and Jason Weathers, In Touch can exclusively reveal.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, the court-appointed administrator of Carl’s estate submitted his final report.

Carl died on February 2 at the age of 76. He drafted a will in 1988 and amended it in October 2014. The administrator said he had handled all outstanding issues over taxes and determining the value of Carl’s property.

In his report, he said that no creditors came forward seeking money from the estate and all tax returns had been filed. The total value of the estate was listed as $870,053.83.

The administrator asked the court to approve $20,000 in fees for work done and another $20,000 for legal fees.

The estate consists of two accounts at City National Bank with $147,000 in funds, plus safety deposit boxes at the bank with $664,000 in cash and a 2018 GMC Pickup Truck with 19,000 miles on it. The car was worth an estimated $58,000.

The administrator asked that the estate be closed and the assets be distributed to Carl’s two sons.

After his death, Carl’s family released a statement. It read, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers.”

They told his fans that the actor died peacefully in his sleep.

The family added, “Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend.”

The actor’s cause of death was listed as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Officials revealed Carl suffered from heart disease.
