It’s trendy to bash the van haggar years, but Eddie was at the top of his complete musical powers on those albums.
Van Halen needed a lead singer in the worst way, so they picked up a singer in the worst way.
I hope you were around when they were featured at the Starwood.
I love early VH, and consider van Hagar a separate band really (just like Aerosmith after their “comeback” is a totally different band than 70’s Aerosmith). My point was that musically, Eddie was very experimental and creative, and remained so throughout his career, and there’s a lot of really cool work behind those shlocky haggar vocals. _________________ “We must always take sides. True.
My other pet peeve with barbers is that you need an appointment to get a haircut at a barbershop these days. In the good old days, you went in and waited your turn. That was part of the fun of getting a barber cut.
If you want an appointment, go to a stylist. If you want a barber cut, you wait your turn and you get a cut that probably doesn't take more than 15-20 minutes and you leave smelling like a proper gentleman. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago. My favorite barber died in 09. He was one of those dudes. He learnt to cut hair in the Army (Korea combat vet). Had his first barber license photo from when he was 19 up above the mirror. Took his time. Even offered some of his older customers johnson & johnson powder. Hot towel by default. Liked to talk about boxing and life in Maine. Wore one of those old fashioned barber smocks with buttons on the shoulder. $10 a cut til the very end. Since then I have been stuck in barber purgatory, bouncing between places all over LA & OC searching for a good man's man barber shop. I have come close a couple of times, even got settled in, but then ownership changed and the motif with it, inevitably leaving the places looking like some damned sissy brewery in Austin, where the only cuts they give are skin fades. And of course, the obligatory SSSSSSSSSS racket of the air compressors. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/
A somewhat controversial opinion I hold is that I think all types of smoking should be illegal in public places. If people wanna smoke weed, cigarettes, vapes, etc... on their own property then that's all good.
But I don't think non-smoking people should have to smell it / ingest it second hand in public places. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

I'd agree with this for indoor places, although you could have a special section for smokers, maybe on a patio or somewhere else that is an open air area.
Smoking should always be allowed in outdoor public places, with maybe a few exceptions, like if an establishment is all outdoors, but again, you can have special smoking sections. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers

I think the laws should protect people from second hand smoke. Aside from that, if I have to smell every lousy restaurant’s stench, you can take a little skunk. We’ve become too prissy about not wanting to see hear or smell a single thing that isn’t our taste. That’s how Giuliani and his ilk justified the war on the homeless, and it’s the basis of racism. Not accusing you of either of those last two, just pointing out fruit of the same tree. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. During the pandemic, I started cutting my own hair. I keep it short so it's not too hard. Over time, I've gotten better at the blending. At some point, I'm going to need to get a better set of clippers, but I'll won't do that until I get better with what I have. [It's like golf. If you can't hit straight, a new set of clubs isn't going to help.]
From time to time, I'll go in for a professional haircut to help me reset and get some kind of shape. I only do it sparingly because I hate the idea of spending $40 on a haircut that requires only a minimal amount of barbering skill. _________________ You are under no obligation to remain the same person you were a year ago, a month ago, or even a day ago.
