They lost because they got their (bleep) kicked in by the Nuggets. Instead of using it as motivation, year after year they've come back and put in half-assed effort. Remember when Paul George randomly got COVID in the play-in round? The Clippers' players have only cared about one thing: Ballmer's money. For lack of a better analogy, the Clippers are the unattractive daughter of a stinking rich dad, and their players are all opportunistic suitors.

lous the man, but yeah. probably best to play through even though its got a huge asterisk.

That bubble was probably the greediest thing I’ve seen in sports, and that’s saying a lot.

no question. It certainly wasn't worthy of a parade IMHO. the banner is enough. better to be down by just 1.

They aren’t going to open up a new arena by tanking. That’s some crappy business thinking.

In the context of 2020 when we thought that COVID was going to result in dead bodies 2-3 deep in the street, it was a risk that shouldn’t have been taken. If someone wants to think that players didn’t leave and then return, or have visitors in, then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona to sell them.

The biggest mistake the Clippers made was getting Kawhi, which also meant giving up so much to also get PG13.

Kawhi was already injury-prone, which should've been a red flag for the Clippers. Not to mention his lack of social skills and possibly being a low-key snake.

PG13 has also been injury-prone, and he's always been wildly inconsistent in the playoffs. On top of that, they gave up SGA, who's clearly a better player than PG13, plus a zillion draft picks, one of which turned into Jalen Williams, who himself seems to have star potential.

That Clippers team was fatally flawed from the start. On top of that, they never had an identity.

How is the bubble a negative thing? You guys do realize at the same time, fast food workers also went to work and that’s without the precautions of the bubble. That 2020 title was such a breath of fresh air during a dark time and our team is the only one that delivered (well, my team, at least lol)

They're going to be in the lottery with no picks to speak of. Likely will be in the lottery next year also.

It’s not negative in the sense that we are only one behind the Celtics vs 2. But it is asterisked, and not the accomplishment of a traditional ring. We are all different. I don’t hold it in high regard and like everyone would trade it for a traditional one. Plus there is a reason it is universally known and referred to as “ even though it was in the bubble” -

Crazy they didn’t give the max to PG and cut the loses on Kawhi instead of the other way around

Kawhi has receipts. The Jerry West tampering/bribery thing was swept under the rug, but it wasn’t made up. All sorts of shady crap went on with that organization in the acquisition and retaining of KL. He runs the Clippers in ways that Klutch/LBJ can’t even think of running the Lakers.

If they were going to let Paul George walk, they should have let Kawhi walk instead of giving him that ridiculous extension. Now they're stuck with him and can't even tank since they don't own their own pick until 2030.

It's known as a title, and the only asterisk is one some posters insist on putting there. On the basketball floor, the Lakers earned that title, and they did so with a great defensive squad. Bubble or no bubble, all the teams competed, it was a breath of fresh air, and the Lakers were the best team in basketball that year, bar none. Not an accomplishment if you don't recognize great defense or have a hard time understanding the game you're watching.

There is no asterisk for the 2020 season on NBA.com or any other reputable site when displaying NBA championships by year.

Laughable but sad that you want to put one there so badly.

not really. it is always prefaced with "bubble." - Frequently prefaced with "even though it was in the bubble" - yes it counts, no one denies that, but without it we have been average. Of course people will blame many factors as to why we haven't gotten back yet overlook the 4 month break it afforded bron/AD and the fact that players didn't want to be there. Franks greatest achievement was keeping the guys focused.

Actually not all the teams competed, just those hand chosen by the league.

the reality is that it was perfect for an aging bron and an AD who is easily dinged. The previous year bron led us to lottery. I don't care how good we played that year. we always see teams have good reg seasons only to falter in playoffs, so that shouldn't be the barometer. the clips were fools - but to Lou wills point had they won, no one would have taken it seriously especially us here.

FWIW that team had gone on a 20-11 stretch prior to Lebron going down. They missed out on George that Summer, that was the same team that hadn't won The supporting cast:

Bron: Played 55 games (27/8/8), missed a long stretch mid-season.
BI: Played 52 games (18/5/4), missed the end of the season with blood clots.
KCP: Played 82 games (11/3/1), most reliable teammate.
Lonzo: Played 47 games (10/5/5), his season was over in January.
Rondo: Played 46 games (9/8/5)
Hart: Played 67 games (8/4/1)
Caruso: Played 25 games (9/3/3)

That team wasn't exactly a pinnacle of health.

Youre caveating it. that's fine. what about the other seasons framing the bubble? I caveat bubble, but I have a greater sample size of average. vs success.

People are overrating how much people are downgrading the bubble. On general NBA forums, even ones that typically have their share of anti-Laker fans like r/NBA or realGM, it's mostly just a vocal minority.

Lou Williams is the only player I can recall who actually downgraded it. And he was a role player whose team got embarrassed in the bubble.

People also overlook how much the quick turnaround in 2021 was a disadvantage for the Lakers. The Lakers got 1/2 the amount of off-season compared to regular years. That was the Lakers' 2nd best regular season since LeBron and AD got together before injuries started to pile up.

I don't see how the Lakers were going to be the mediocre team they are right now even without all of the bubble stuff happening.

It happened, get over it. I wouldn't downgrade it if any other team won it, including the Celtics. I also don't downgrade the lockout-shortened championships. Fans of every team would also celebrate if their team won it.

It’s no surprise that the players that choked the hardest in the bubble are also the ones that think it didn’t count.

This has been beaten to death and at this point the people that discount it are committed to looking for any reason to do so. Basketball was played and we won. We had some advantages like the layoff, but also had disadvantages unique to us (we were the only contender to lose a starter because of the bubble). This dumb argument that it’s tainted will fade year over year until it doesn’t exist at all.

The title was legit and doesn’t deserve an *. The season was an ugly example of corporate greed and any stats related to it deserves an *. Every team started the 2021-2022 season at the same time so that means nothing. I don’t use the COVID season as an example of what the Lakers should do going forward, it is something that will never be replicated.

Meh. The bubble ring was almost 5 years ago. I genuinely think it's time to move on, even though I partially agree with the people saying it's as legitimate as any of our other rings. The circumstances were extremely favorable, and it's tough to blame the Lakers for taking advantage of it.

I'm more disappointed that the Lakers have had 3 coaches and tons of poor decisions since then. This is not a well run or stable organization by any means. The volatility, lack of transparency and accountability is enough to drive players and coaches away (see Quin Snyder). People expecting Redick to conjure up some kind of miracle will be disappointed, although I do think he deserves the benefit of the doubt as a 1st year coach.

My expectations are insanely low and to the point where I am indifferent now. If Redick isn't as good as Pelinka says he is, we'll be watching a train wreck in real time, and I'll have the popcorn ready. I am the least invested I've ever been. Like I said earlier, both the Clippers and Lakers have the potential to be train wrecks in their own way. I won't laugh at Kawhi getting hurt again, but I will definitely laugh at how unlucky and cursed they are.

I totally missed that the Clippers signed Kevin Porter, Jr.

With Josh Primo and Porter together, they are clearly striving to improve the character and culture of the team

^That's legitimately one of the most pathetic things I've ever heard, which is par for the course for that franchise. It's no surprise that the Lemon Pepper Lou episode basically ended his NBA career at 33 years old.

How is the bubble a negative thing? You guys do realize at the same time, fast food workers also went to work and that’s without the precautions of the bubble. That 2020 title was such a breath of fresh air during a dark time and our team is the only one that delivered (well, my team, at least lol)

Jaysis, lawd have mercy. How many of your posts are about the same 1-2 notes? Insufferable.
