He did address it and said they had to be more physical. Especially on the perimeter where they were ranked 3rd to last on open 3's. |

JJ wasn’t known for his defense so I’m not surprised we’ve heard a lot more about the offense. We also have a much better chance at being a good offensive team than we do a good defensive team. Either way it’s going to be a struggle having a bench as bad as ours. I don’t think we have the horses to be an awesome defensive team. _________________ 14-5-3-12 |

It’s true that we need to shoot more of them, but we don’t have great shooters on the team. Shooting more 3s is a logical next step, but a lot of those extra 3s might be coming from AD, Max, Cam, Vando and Gabe. This could be particularly sobering when we inevitably trade the team’s best shooter. |
I believe JJ is going to run a motion offense where they get open looks. You don't have to be a great shooter to hit and open look, just a good shooter. DLO, AR, Gabe, Max, Dalton, Bron, Rui are the ones I expect to take those shots consistently. AD was asked to take more 3's but I think he won't overshoot them. Vando believe it or not was hitting his share of 3's from the corner before he got injured. We'll see if he has a green light to shoot them. I don't think Cam will play much so I wouldn't worry about him. |
You have to be a good shooter to knock down 3's (Shaq could never hit a FT to save his life). IF we're a poor 3 point shooting team we will have wished we attacked more or had other options.
Anyway, we'll soon see. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team ! |

"F" Ham. This season will be enjoyable. I am glad we do not have to watch low level AAU basketball (as far as system or lack thereof) any more. |

AD said the goal is top 5 defense. JJ has said the 23-10 stretch had the starters at top-5 in defense. With Vando and Gabe and Christie expected to step up and no more drop coverage, help off shooters one pass away (bleep), it's not that much of a stretch to suggest the bench defense will improve too and we end up an above average defense. Plus crashing the offensive glass will limit opponents' transition opportunities where we get killed. We still need a good backup big for that though, and obviously health. But it's not like the team is totally devoid of defensive talent. |

From Trudell:
On top of the “usual suspects” (essentially the starters), JJ Redick cited Max Christie and Jaxson Hayes as having impressive moments in the first practice. Both expect to be key bench rotation pieces.
JJ is going to have to rethink his 9 man rotation. Because of the nine are the starters with Max, Gabe, Vando and Hayes. That means Knecht and Wood are out not to mention Kolenko. |

I hope the plan is to increase Jaxson Hayes’s trade value which is why they want to give him minutes early on, the fun part is if he does play well for us he’s gonna be a nice filler to add to trades, he was a lottery pick so teams would be taking the chance |

I don't think that's the plan. JJ is a Hayes fan. In fact JJ convinced Hayes to pick up his option. I think they'll look to trade Cam or Woods first however if they can get a pretty good center like Carter or Capela or Val then all bets are off. |

Not expecting anything different from last year.
The Lakers will be a good(not great) basketball team while DLo and AR aren't slumping. And, they'll be trash when they are.
At the end of the day, the lack of 2-way play limits this team's ceiling. People overlook that the Lakers definitely played worse defense when the "mid 3" started together, good for 23rd in defensive efficiency post all-star break.
On defense: AD is all-world, LeBron is inconsistent, and the other 3 are outright bad.
That's just not enough. It's why the Lakers aren't top-tier at their best, and why they become awful when they're slumping. |

Hayes in Feb - 15mpg, 6pts, 4rebs, 1blk 71% from the field
Hayes in Mar - 15mpg, 6pts, 5rebs, 1blk 75% from the field
Hayes in Apr - 17mpg, 7pts, 5rebs, 1 blk, 1 stl, 80% from field
That was a 33 game sample
I mean people kill Hayes but Ham played him when Wood got hurt in Feb and gave him 15mins a night. He was consistent as hell. Efficient as hell. Then game 1 came of the playoffs and Ham said you get 4mins.
Knecht doesn’t deserve to play and hasn’t earned the right to play. He wasn’t great at summer league. Let the rookie earn the minutes. Let Cam and Wood know they aren’t guaranteed time after they have been journeyman. Make Bronny, Knecht, Lewis, and JHS compete in practice.

To be fair to Dlo, Rui said something damning too. He said this coach wants me to rebound and not just get back. We all killed Rui for not rebounding last year and to hear him say JJ told to rebound compared to the last coach is crazy because it was just Bron and AD hitting the glass last year |

The 9 man rotation is the most productive approach given the current roster imo, and if it is expanded then Cam not Hayes cracks the line up. Of course it should go without saying that anyone could step up unexpectedly or fall off, and Reddick did say 9 man when healthy. If these 8 are healthy and play up to par to what they have already shown then there isn’t a reason for any other player…other than MaxC if he lives up to potential…to see meaningful minutes.
AD/Wood
Rui
LBJ /Vando
AR
Dlo/Vincent
+ MaxChristie
It would be a nice surprise if Knecht can contribute meaningfully this season without being forced into it due to injury or others being ineffective. It would also be nice if Hayes has better than minimal deep reserve type impact to ascend to more than just somebody that is there to give AD a rest. There are reserves used to actually help win games and there are reserves only used to give others rest…which despite some productivity…given others rest is all Hayes has ever shown. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. I guess you didn't listen to JJ. He mentioned the top 9 and included Hayes. The. He corrected himself and said 10 and included Knecht. He never mentioned Wood. And it wasn't because he's injured because he mentioned Vando. But youre right we have to wait until preseason plays out and see who the 10 will be. But JJ is a Hayes fan. Wood and Cam have to prove their worth. I don't see Cam at all cracking the 10 and Wood the odd man out too. |

We can all speculate, and base that on whatever, either of us could be right, or wrong. I based my speculation on what has actually been displayed on the court. Wood, Vando, Vincent have shown the ability to affect games…on the court, not just on paper…in a way that none of the others have shown, of couse as stated, it doesn’t mean I’m right.
Also, I interpreted the “when healthy” to allude to Wood, Hayes would have to morph into a totally different player than he has ever been in his career to significantly contribute to an NBA team on a regular basis, hope he does for the Lakers. _________________ “When it looks as if it is a realistic possibility, I want to focus on winning a ship like it’s a goal that can’t be denied. KAT trade now finalized with 100% salary matching met (ie ducking 1st Apron trigger) by NY via S&ts. The bugs used their room- or ntp- MLE to take that traded salary into, which is now allowed via the CBA. Needless to say, they are now hardcapped at the 1st Apron with acquisitions of these S&t’d players and/or using the ntpMLE. Knicks meanwhile are hardcapped at the 2nd Apron and Minny has ducked the hardcap altogether via 100% trade matching and not receiving a singular salary that was aggregated for.
Quote: | Fred Katz: The Hornets are receiving three second-round picks (two via Knicks, one via Minnesota), along with DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown and Duane Washington Jr., to complete the Karl-Anthony Towns-Julius Randle-Donte DiVincenzo trade, sources tell me, @JonKrawczynski and @ShamsCharania
|
Knicks FO are running laps around this new CBA. Take note, Rob. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

DLo sucked under many different headcoaches with many different teams. That is a fact we could look at. He's a journeyman for a reason. As I've said before, the Lakers looked good with him because Bron and AD was healthy and you're comparing against Westbrick Lakers.
Compare DLo's Lakers against KCP's Lakers in 2020 when both teams had Bron and AD healthy and playing at a high level. |
Ham gave DLO the easiest defensive matchup every game. He should be embarrassed Reaves and Prince had to cover point guards.
DLO said the team was freelancing last season. DLO fans stated Ham had DLO parked outside the 3-point line, who’s telling the truth?
I wanted Ham and DLO gone. |
zzzz...yawn how many lies can one person spew?...Ohh you want him gone? awwww but still cant answer that quesstion....who can you get to replace him? care answer? |

To be fair to Dlo, Rui said something damning too. He said this coach wants me to rebound and not just get back. We all killed Rui for not rebounding last year and to hear him say JJ told to rebound compared to the last coach is crazy because it was just Bron and AD hitting the glass last year |
Rui was a throw away for wiz- if he needs to know what his role entails hes dumb. But seems like a nice guy. |
I’m not arguing that he is not Kuzma. I’ve said that. But at the same time he’s still young and looking at you as a coach and coming from the wizards 😂 and we’ve seen guys come from the wizards like Porter, Young, McGee, etc be lost on how to play ball in terms of their talent meeting a role.
Thats the franchise from hell basically. But Rui saying he was told to get back down the court last year and asking the coach what he expected of him this year was told to shoot 3s, rebound, and be more physical is a start. Will he be perfect at it? No but it’s a start. If Rui becomes a 6 board a night guy I’ll be good with it. It will be puzzling why the hell Ham told him just run back last year when Bron and AD had no glass help though |
