They gave us 6 outs man in one inning.....I still cant help but chuckle over that. Dante Bichette, one of the worst defensive outfielders in MLB history who actually put up a NEGATIVE WAR season after a 0.298 34 HRs 133 RBIs statline because of how atrocious his defense is would have made that play in his sleep playing centerfield - a position no manager in his right mind would ever put Bichette in. Then the Volpe error......what kind of toss was that???? Cole and Rizzo, that was inexplicable from two veteran players. Catcher's Interference????? Then a brain fart Balk by Weaver. My goodness, I guess the Yankees really didnt want to fly back west.
More catcher interference this year and in the last few years because of the ridiculousness of pitch framing. The catchers are trying to catch the ball early to yank it and frame stuff, and when you do that, you run the occasional risk of that happening. OOPS!
Just can't believe Judge dropped that ball. That's a 99.9% catch. The Volpe error is more understandable, in that he does have to hurry the throw to make the out. So given that, you can at least see how a guy could rush his throw and botch it. Then on the Mookie dribbler, yeah, that's just all on Cole. He had to have been so mentally fried from the two errors before that he simply forgot that you always just run that out, even if you think the first baseman is going to do it himself. It certainly wasn't Rizzo's fault, as the ball had spun back towards second base enough to where there's no way Rizzo was winning that race to the bag. Just a total brain cramp from Cole, and then he was under so much stress from the mental mistake and the extra pitches that he then gave up hits to Freeman and Teo. And honestly, the pitch to Freddie wasn't a bad one, a firm fastball on the inside corner. Freddie is just such a great hitter that he pulled the hands in and fought it off. The one to Teo just looked like a tired, hanging offspeed pitch.
I'll say it again: we beat them with 8 total bases and they had 19! If there's been a greater disparity in a World Series win, it couldn't be by much more.
On the two errors (technically Cole's mental meltdown was an infield single as he didn't touch the ball), Judge's was pretty bad. If there were 2 runners on, or the bases were loaded, I find it somewhat excusable for an OFer to scan the base paths before the catch. But there was only one runner, Kike, on base, he didn't need to scan in order to know where to fire the ball. The fly was reasonably shallow, Kike wasn't going to advance from first to second on a shallow fly to center. Judge didn't need to scan, and to state the obvious, he kept his eyes away from the path of the ball.
The infield error was more understandable. You want to underhand the ball as a good lob is easier to track, and it's a quicker motion to get the ball out of the glove. It was a rush play... but just the same, an overhand toss over a short distance is a potential error waiting to happen.

Nov 5, 2024 this year?
The current thread is still about this season, obviously. When the bulk of the conversation changes to next season, it's probably time. At least after the parade, though.
Is there an equivalent to July 1 in the NBA, the date the season officially rolls over? There must be...
Side note: Congrats to all the die-hard Dodgers fans in this thread. While not a hard core fan, and certainly not as knowledgeable as many of you, I've followed this thread with interest all year and I've learned a ton here. I'm thrilled for you that they won.

For sure.
We want to enjoy this year as long as possible.
Only reason to start the new thread is for superstitious reasons.
Yeah the offseason kicks off soon, in a few days.

Oct. 31: Players become free agents, trading resumes
As of 9 a.m. ET on Thursday, eligible players (i.e. those with at least six years of service time) are free agents. It is important to note free agents can not sign with new teams just yet.
They have to wait five days for that. The first five days of the offseason are an exclusive negotiating period during which free agents can only talk money with their most recent team. Very, very few players re-sign during the exclusive negotiating period.
crazy that boston and LA fans were actually rooting for the same thing. _________________ Iman Shumpert, believes LBJ's decision to constantly team up with other All-Stars eschewed the idea of superstars continually adding layers to their repertoire.

The Boston Globe baseball writers are downright gleeful this morning! _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".
Red Sox fans have a manic hatred of the Yankees, the closest comp is how Dodgers fans feel about SF. The Padres? No, they're the court jester; hot dogs like the Sacramento Kings.
I love the Sox. Best ball field in the majors. A common enemy in the Yankees. I hated rooting against them during the 2018 World Series.

Love going to Red Sox forums and reading their pure schadenfraude for their hated rivals. Love it almost as much as going to SF Giants forums and reading their posts hahahah

My wife is from Boston so I have a small love for them in my heart (and had a rooting interest for the Pats in the Brady years). Super fun and passionate sports fans and seeing them so joyful just because the Yankees lost is honestly heartwarming. After each game there was a big DAAAAAAAAAA JANKEES LOSE post on their subreddit; it’s brought me so much joy hahahah

As a baseball fan, I really liked the Red Sox championship teams and how they were constructed - especially the 2007 version which I believe was their strongest team of all their title teams once Coco Crisp got replaced with Jacoby Ellsbury. In 2007, 2013 and 2018, it was clear that all 3 years, they were THE best team in baseball all 3 years. 2004, I did think the Yankees and Red Sox were evenly matched and the Cardinals had a legit case as the best team that year but that Red Sox momentum steamrolled them.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend!
Maybe I’m missing something but I’ve never seen the Yankees as enemies.
Only hatred or dislike that I feel towards AL teams are the Angels and the Astros.
They are historical rivals as you know but yeah I’ve never felt THAT much towards them. This series though sparked something. Their fans are SO obnoxious. They still act like they lost as opposed to the Dodgers won. What a joke. Rat filled city smelling like trash, concrete (bleep) where nightmares are birthed

MAX PROPS TO MAX MUNCY. We told the stout man get better at third or you aren’t playing, period. DH is Shohei and Freddie’s at first. We have like 19 guys that can play third.

AF has wanted Tommy Edman for years. He got his guy and he (bleep) delivered. Edman, Kophech, Flaherty—many of us were disappointed in this haul and BOY did those guys all deliver.
Smoltz called what Dave Roberts did the best managerial job he’s ever seen.
Gotta give it up for Roberts. Dude pushed all the right buttons this year.
I have been hard on him in the past but all his moves this time worked to perfection. Just a glorious fantastic title, to do it in Yankee Stadium was amazing. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny
