Speaking strictly from the day-of standpoint (because we have no means of comparison for the impact Luka will have vs. what Pau has already contributed), it's Pau and it's not even remotely close. We gave up a proverbial dump truck full of expired shrimp for an All-Star. Yesterday's trade was a lot more balanced for both teams.
So does AD. The point that I'm glad to see most people making is that we gave up literally nothing (in fact, I would go so far as to say that Memphis took on negative value with Kwame) for Pau. Yes, Luka is a better player than Gasol, but when you give away $0 to get $100, that's still a better deal than when you give away $145 to get back $150.
Gasol trade netted us 2 championships. That's like...uncomparable. Too many Luka fanboys are mistaking superstardom with championships. Luka is no doubt a generational talent but let's wait to see how many rings he could win for us.
For now, Gasol is no brainer a better heist until Luka could prove otherwise.
It actually could be a worse trade for the Lakers if AD and Max could have helped us win another ring. _________________ Lakers used to average one championship every four years under Dr. Buss but I'd gladly take one every ten years now.

No, Kobe + the addition of Gasol got us two championships. Gasol was not the main guy. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Lakers WITH Kobe before Pau's arrival was garbage. _________________ Lakers used to average one championship every four years under Dr. Buss but I'd gladly take one every ten years now.

We were the #1 seed to start 07-08 at 26-11. Then Bynum got injured. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:
Memphis got Marc Gasol for 11 years out of that trade. Let’s see how AD holds up before we can judge with 20/20 hindsight.
And the most they got out of the deal was one CF appearance.
Or another way to describe it, their most successful season in franchise history, and four 50+ win seasons. A feat they never reached with Pau.
That's definitely another way to describe it, but they (a) were never championship contenders despite the considerable talent apart from Marc and (b) had no idea this would happen when they acquired him.
Gasol was the bigger heist, but the Luka trade is more shocking….especially considering it seemed like most teams actively tried to prevent another Gasol-like heist from happening again lol

This trade was no heist, we gave up a top 75 NBA player who is still top 10 in the league and potentially the best 2-way player right now. Plus Max, the price for Luka was 2 of the top 3,4 defensive players on the team. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
This seemed like we got value for value, whereas with the Pau trade it seemed like we gave up a lot of little things that weren't doing anything for us for someone really good. Sure, one of those things turned out to be really good in Marc Gasol, but that was not anything we were using at the time or that we even thought would be good, let alone in the nba, at the time.

AD not even close to top 10, people are so delusional about him
