Thought this would be a good place to focus on center options

Quote:
"We know we have a need for a big -- the market for bigs right now leading into the last two or three days of the trade deadline is very dry," Pelinka said. "There's just not a lot available. So maybe we'll be able to do some stuff around the margins. I would say, in terms of a big move for that position, it's probably more realistic that would be something that comes in the offseason

Quote:
"Versatility, mobility, a vertical lob threat, I think that's a key to the spacing that Luka likes to play. Competitive. I think that those are some of the core things there. Those players are hard to find. But we'll accomplish the task that's before us. We'll find a way."

Not a Pelinka fan but I agree at finding the perfect balance of finding a big that can help this year but only trading real assets if it' a real difference maker. I hate to waste any opportunity with a LeBron/Luka team in the playoffs

Kessler-Everyone's fav, but all reports are the Jazz arent moving hi
Turner-It never made sense why the Pacers would move him for whatever we have to offer
Vucevic-Not a good fit with LeBron/Luka. Bulls reportedly want a 1st
Nic Claxton-I would be down for, but do the Nets even want to move him? He's still young and they just resigned him
Capela-Would be a fit but matching conctracts would be tricky.
Robert Williams-I thought he was the most realastic option, but Blazers reportedly wants a 1st which is laughable.

With that in mind, I have told myself I would be fine with Mo Bamba. I know Bamba didn't make many fans in the small sample size he was here (9 whole games) but he checks a lot of boxes on what we need.

-5th in Block % (Wemy, Chet, WIlliams,Clinghan)
-Upgrade over Jaxon in rebounding
-Obviously will be a vertical threat along with ability to space the floor
- As of 02/04 was 2nd in D-LeBron in the WHOLE NBA (per BBall Index)

Would much rather just pick him up or even Biyombo instead of burning assets on a washed guy like Steven Adams, who I would love for free but not at the price it would take to get him.

When was the last time the center market wasn't dried? It's dried because every team is drafting and holding onto their bigs like it's their firstborn.

Pelinka is like "the new CBA makes it hard to trade. The market for bigs is very dry." He will find every possible excuse to justify his inability to pay for or find a big.

Bigs are there. They're just a lot more expensive than what Pelinka was willing to pay for. Offer up the farm and see how many bigs are available. He had the chance to draft a big in last year's draft.

Go get him - 7 feet and 6 fouls.

What would it take to get Ayton? Have the player wh9 should have been drafted #1 in 2018 and the actual #1 pick on the same team.

Trevor Lane went through a comparison of these centers and what teams are asking, and you're right they're asking a lot. We'll see if any budge by Thursday. Pretty compelling case for not giving up the farm right now. Pelinka wants a starting quality center with some verticality. As soon as the calendar flips mid summer, we have $40M give or take in expiring contracts and more centers to choose from.

Makes more sense to hang on to our remaining picks or at least the first rounder, we'll have a lot more ammo and targets come summer.

For this spring it might be best to look more towards someone available at Bamba's level just to get through the season.

Playing time makes guys better & him banging with 6 fouls would teach him how to improve! He moves well & doesn’t back down!

agree..
they're probably big game hunting, and wouldn't do this until after the deadline though
who knows if he'd still be available then

Ayton makes a zillion dollars and has questionable ethic . . . but I'd take him:

Rui, Vando, Gabe, FRP for Ayton, Banton & Walker.

Blazers have 3 starting level centers and we don't have one lol.

Robert Williams with a Robert Williams type game last night as Clingan got the DNP-CD

11 rebounds
3 assist
2 Blocks
+19 in 24mins vs LG's fav Myles Turner and Pacers

With how much the Lakers love Rui and how well he is playing right now, I wonder would the Lakers even consider including him in trades for a guy like Williams or Capela?

I've been stanning for Mitchell Robinson for awhile now. A legit 7'0", 260+ pound defensive center who might be had for cheap because of his injury history (he's now cleared to play by doctors) is the type of option we should go all in on if the Knicks allow it.

DO IT ROB!!!!

Anyone know whether we could ship out Kleber and Morris separately for 2 TPEs, and then combine those TPEs to take in a $11m-14m salary? I assume not, and that there's some restriction here due to our being a first-apron team... or you just can't combine TPEs in general?

Can't combine TPE

Also don't really understand the dump Maxi for a TPE narrative. That's 11mill in deadweight next year would likely take either our first (non starter) or multiple 2nd round picks (we only have one)

Occasionally seeing Poeltl getting mentioned as a trade target too.

Likely costs players and a 1st. But a legitimate starting center for the next couple years.

Wouldn’t hate it. I have thought he would be a decent addition in past years.

Spotrac list of FA Centers this summer:
https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/_/year/2025/position/c/sort/contract_value

Notable names:
Turner, Brook, Naz, Steven Adams, Capela, Horford, Drummond, Plumlee

Bagley is a UFA too, but is listed on Spotrac as a PF even though he plays some Center

I'd suggested before that signing Bamba as a stopgap for the rest of the season might be our best option if Rob can't get someone better..
and then go for one of the FA's in the summer.
or, see if they can swing a different trade in the summer too.

I seriously think the organization has been scarred by the Mozgov signing so they are afraid to commit to any centers.
