JJ has really found something by having Luka play with some of our best energy guys. And a great thing about these lineups is that they are generally positive while LeBron and Austin get to rest.
Strong defense and extra possessions with these groupings.
Luka
Gabe
Goody
DFS or Vando
Hayes or Vando
There are other combinations but these six guys look like the core of these rotations. They performed well in both OKC games, as far as I could tell.
It's basically Luka and our main bench squad. |

Think this is a good sense of what we need for the future. You'd need an athletic strong rim runner that can set good drag screens. Athletic guards that will defend. Obviously some 3 point shooting.
You don't get that sort of movement and defensive effort from the starters around Luka. Not consistently.
Just the talent level of these guys as a unit is not enough to warrant starts, but the sort of style of ball they play, it should give Pelinka an idea of how he should go about building a roster around Doncic in the longterm. |

Every element of Rob's plan to build around Luka starts with shooting, defense and quality length. It's absolutely amazing what this trade did for the FO's planning going forward.
Nico's gift stabilized us for the present, and presents Rob with a variety of options for the future, especially after the recovered assets after the rescinded Williams trade.
We now have a nice mix of players. The only thing missing is what Williams would have given us if the trade had gone through. We also have a developing blueprint of what's going to really supercharge our roster with the type of players we need.
For me, players like DFS, Rui who are shooters who can play defense, and Hayes being a 6'11 defensive-minded, run the floor, great hands big, fit the bill. Players like Vando have a serious level of utility, but we still have to continue to look for opportunities to bring on board better two-way players.
Two-way players are the absolute key to maximizing roster space. |

Looking forward to this summer. An athletic, long big man is job #1 for Rob IMO. Someone better than Jaxson. |
