McVay doesn't put up with any bullsh*t

That's why Cam Akers is gone, that's why they wouldn't draft Shedeur.

Maybe it will end in tears for JJ, but I doubt he'd act like this if he didn't have the support of management.

I disagree with some of his choices, but I like strong leadership overall as opposed to coaches who are there just to appease superstars.

I've been a Rams fan for decades.
McVay changed the entire culture of the organization (along with Snead and Demoff)
I don't think JJ and Pelinka are quite on the same page as those guys. And ownership is definitely not in the same league.

Even when a player has flat out FAILED and screw the pooch, McVay does his best to spin it positively....it almost pisses me off sometimes.
But throwing out a disclaimer that you take blame and then proceed to throw your guy(s) under the bus is BS. Keep that shtt in-house and deal with it directly. Right after a loss, saying all this stuff is tacky and unprofessional

In my mind JJ went from long term coach to "he better watch out if he keeps letting his ego getting in the way", with his unwillingness to sub anyone in that second half and then letting Gobert go free range without even trying to use a center just because he said he wouldn't use Hayes.

But my point is I prefer that type of coach over people like Luke and Vogel and Ham who just quietly seem to take it.

I'm sure in practice all those coaches were much more fiery but I just happen to like coaches who show a little more emotion.

JJ's not an idiot, he knew what he said about conditioning was going to go viral and it was a calculated move that could easily put him back in the broadcast booth.

McVay acts like Mr. Supportive but you could tell from how he handled Gurley that he's ruthless.

Even though the Rams could use a quarterback of the future, I knew that wasn't going to be a fit.

I know an in-shape Luka would be the best player in the league.

That being said, even with his extra pounds he was our best player. He was better than Lebron (yes I know he’s 40).

You don’t roast your best in the media.

You sit with him in private. You express your gratitude for his leading your team. You approach him with sincerity.

“Luka, you are the best we have. We will do everything possible to always have talent around you. We want you to take time off, enjoy your life, and be happy. We would accept you in any way shape or form. With you at your physical peak, however, that is our way to a dynasty. You will go down as one of the greatest ever and I hope we get to enjoy that journey with you.”

Anything is better than what JJ said. If he pissed Luka off, I’d honestly fire his ass.

Lol @ this soft generation.

I would have said "Luka...you (bleepin) (bleep). Get your (bleep) (bleep) in the gym, and (bleep) (bleep) (bleep)

Pop would have said something similar But you can't do that anymore. Why? Take a look at what happened with Pop and Kawhi. Tony Parker called him soft in the media and you have all these people on twitter going around saying that's a big part why he left

More to the point, if you look at why we lost, Luka wasn’t the problem, on either side of the ball.

@Doc, why you 🧢’n? Luka not only faded late in games on offense…

https://www.nba.com/stats/players/traditional?Period=4&PerMode=Totals&TeamID=1610612747

….but he also was an absolute turnstile on defense with multiple Wolves taking turns just abusing dude which obviously compromised our team defense. He gave up the most points to the Wolves than any Laker.

Quote:
Below are the minutes our top 7 players logged and how many opposing points that came at their hands on D during their time on the court.

Luka gave up 124 total points to the opps in 208 total mins of Playing Time

https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1629029/head-to-head?dir=D&sort=PLAYER_PTS

Rui gave up 100 points in 182 total mins of PT

https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1629060/head-to-head?dir=D&sort=PLAYER_PTS

Reavus also gave up 100 in 196 total mins of PT

https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1630559/head-to-head?dir=D&sort=PLAYER_PTS

Bron gave up just 65 points to the opps he defended in 204 total mins of court time 💪🏼

https://www.nba.com/stats/player/2544/head-to-head?dir=D&sort=PLAYER_PTS

DFS gave up just 59 points to the opps in 170 total mins played

https://www.nba.com/stats/player/1627827/head-to-head?dir=D&sort=PLAYER_PTS

Meanwhile going to our bench…
Gabe gave up only 28 pts in 99 total mins played in this series
Vando gave up 39 pts in 60 total mins played in this series

Granted, the stomach bug Game 3 along with any lingering pains/injuries with his left calf may have impacted his overall performance. But that aside, he was a major reason we lost at least on the defensive side of the ball.

In the Wolves series he was a problem. Overlooking some problems while enforcing others makes you a crappy coach. JJ didn’t call out Luka, he called out the entire team. As he should, they are paid a lot of money and should be professional. JJ called himself out as well, and I’m guessing he will be working on improvement during the offseason.

Whether JJ's tactics (on bluntly demanding fitness from players) are optimal or not, I'm not sure. But what is absolutely clear is that improvement is necessary in not just one dimension but multiple in order to be in the OKC/Celtics tier:
- Players (Luka e.g. ) need to be much more fit. He faded in the 4th multiple games.
- Coaching needs to be much better, JJ lost at least 1 game all on his own and was lacklustre in others.
- FO needs to be MUCH better, achieve better balance, dot i's, cross t's, no more wasting roster space, poor cap management, poor margin moves.
- Ownership needs to lessen the perception of nepotism and letting the FO plea cop-outs season after season. It's the top of the org that sets the corner-stone for org culture.

would love to have a been a fly on the table at the pelinka/JJ/Luka dinner the other night.
IF I had to guess it went like this

"This is your team. Tell us what you want. He has one more year left."

Unless he negotiates another 2 year contract. That would be the smartest move for LeBron, a contract that runs through 2027 and then retire during 2026 training camp. It gives the Lakers a lot of cap space in the 2027 offseason. LeBron gets his payoff and the Lakers can shop in 2027 free agency.
