I actually think Kerr would make a great coach but who knows.. |
He could in a situation where he isn't going to come in and try to win over something that the guys already have going and like. I'm not sure what Kerr will do, but I don't think he likes to run and gun and play like GST does. One of the things he often talks about and even did in PHX is get in a post up player and slow things down. That's why he traded for Shaq as their gm.
Ny was a much better fit for him, because the team is looking for a new leader and just had a regime change. Warriors otoh liked Jackson, and wanted to play for him. They seem like a team that needs MDA or someone like that more so than Kerr. I'm surprised GST went after Kerr over MDA. I think that team was tailored made for DANtoni. |

I don't know what Kerr's coaching philosophies will be but from listening to him on TV, he is a much smarter basketball mind than Mark Jackson, who is mostly just fluff in my opinion. I can't imagine that Mark Jackson will be next on Phil's list now that Kerr is spoken for. |

Many LGers are writing Jackson's not a x and o coach. I don't know how they came to that conclusion.
His defense was 3rd in the league, his offense, I believe 8th, fit his players, run and gun.
He had set plays for Curry,Thompson, Iguodala to name a few.
I saw him draw some good out of bounds plays, don't they count?
He is a motivator and I think because of his rah, rah approach his x and o were overlooked. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Yep if it wasn't Phil that was doing the recruiting everybody would be questioning why they are breaking out the bank for somebody who has never coached in the NBA. Even it was Phil it would still be a questionable decision. It was probably for the best that the Warriors got him instead, now the NY media can roast an experienced NBA coach that knows how to handle the situation. |

Funny that a better situation may ultimately be a bad choice for someone.
Golden State gave Kerr a longer contract, it's close to his college kids, the Warriors have better talent, etc.
But I agree with the previous posters that it's a setup for failure if things don't go well immediately.
The warriors FO is more poisoned than NY, who has an active owner that can possibly move out of the way, while in GS the owners kid is a daily nuisance, along with some of the bizarre tactics that have happened this past season.
Plus I think that NY would've embraced Kerr as a smart quality basketball mind even without immediate results. The Warriors market seems to lack that type of franchise perspective and history.
Anyhow, ultimately I think it will be a bad choice for Steve Kerr, even if the list had many reasons to go for the west coast. _________________ "At the end of the day, you are what your record says that you are." --Mitch Kupchak |

I'm waiting for the "no one wants to play for Phil Jackson" articles... _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. Perhaps he brings Brian Shaw in with the understanding that Phil will do all home games while B. Shaw flies solo on the road. Phil could even do road games near NY, like Brooklyn, Boston, Philly... |

I think it's more likely to see Kurt Rambis or Jim Clemons there. I doubt Shaw will leave Denver just 1 year into his contract there. |

Phil Jackson's interest is what drove Kerr's stock through the roof. |

I can't imagine who Phil is going to hire. Having had the success he's had as a head coach, you know he's already got an idea of how he wants the team to be coached which probably eliminates a lot of established veteran coaches who have their own ideas. At the same time, that coach has got to be able to deal with the NYC media and be a strong enough leader to take control of a group of volatile players.
How long before Phil Jackson comes to the conclusion the only candidate that meets all those requirements is Phil Jackson? _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Apparently the Knicks offer was 4/20, so it's not exactly a giant leap for one extra hear.
As for Phil implementing the triangle? Good luck with that. No time, no staff and definitely the wrong players. He's not going back to coaching for a train wreck. |
