Not impressed with Payton so far, looks lackadaisical. It is unfortunate that Gordon don't have a better handle of the basketball, that and an improved shot would make him special. _________________ "Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships."

Same impressions. Payton actually looks overwhelmed. It's only his first game but he looks scared to try his jumper. That high dribble of his is going to get him in trouble.
OTOH, Gordon looks to be pressing too hard trying to make a good first impression.
I saw some bashing Smart on the Lounge, but I thought he looked pretty good. Very decisive, didn't get stuck holding the ball and always seemed to know where his teammates were on the floor. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

the summer league PG Defense is real impressive. super quick raw players playing all out defensively 3/4 of the court pressuring the ball. all of the PGs had trouble starting offense where they should, they all picked up their dribbles way too early. im not going to judge Payton too much, BUT, he showed at the least that he's not special off the dribble. dont put your money on him to do much at all offensively this year ( although some people argued he was better than M.Smart offensively. doesnt look like it at all.) he looks average.
Aaron Gordon airballed his first two shots, a 10 foot flip shot, and then a 3pointer. EW. he also showed a shaky handle. he only had one nice play all game. he also clanked a FT off the left backboard, barely hit the rim.
every aspect of his offensive game is average ( alot of people thought his handle would have him making alot of plays)

It is boring, but nice to see Brian Cook on the floor for Detroit. I remember last year it was fun watching Drummond play in the SL for the Pistons. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Detroit has some talent out there, though. If they can turn Monroe into a nice S&T package they might make some noise next season. Caldwell-Pope is dominating on offense and defense.

Where is Orlando going to get their offense from next season? They must be expecting Oladipo and Vucevic to both become 20+ scorers next season. I don't see Gordon or Payton contributing much on offense.
Giving Jameer his walking papers might have been premature. Payton looks like he's got a ways to go before being NBA ready. Kid reminds me of Darius Morris. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant

This thread was hard to see on top there.
Smart actually looked as advertised. He can help a team through just defense, FTs, and moving the ball alone. They will probably have to invoke a no 3 ptr rule on him during the season though.

Boston isn't competing this year, if anything they need him to push him a bit to score more to build up his shot. He's got good size/agility but doesn't look explosive enough to routinely attack the rim (at least not like a Wade/Kobe/Westbrook type can).
