You really REALLY have to remind yourselves sometimes that Russell is a freshman... the kid looks special. Want him on the Lakers as fast as possible! Him and Randle future 1-2 punch

I want Russell too. The Lakers need spacing. With a guard tandem of Russell and Clarkson that could be pretty good. Russell will open the court more for Clarkson to drive.

It would be harder to double on Julius Randle.

Too bad a 6'11 Ryan Kelly couldn't play center.

At C we need someone who can defend and protect the rim. At SF we could use a 3 and D type player.

I'd be very happy if our post-Kobe starting lineup was Russell, Clarkson, Middleton, Randle, and Lopez.

Nice young core to build around for the future.

Would be pretty much impossible to get Middleton AND Lopez for $20-21m (which is what we'd have after drafting Russell...and I don't see a team taking Swaggy off our hands either).

Dont forget to throw another 35 mil plus in salary for the year post kobe.

1. I don't think that includes all contracts that are waived.
2. I highly doubt it's $35mil under the cap.

Chad Ford (ESPN)

If they finish with the worst record in the league, Okafor is a slam dunk for them. Their best and only big man is Jordan Hill, and he’s a far cry from Okafor. For a team that has a long legacy of elite big men — from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to Shaquille O’Neal to Andrew Bynum (OK, not so much Bynum) — the Lakers would love to have a young front line of Okafor and Julius Randle. Okafor’s closest competition I’m told is Mudiay, but it’s not that close right now.

Throw Durant into that mix (moving Clarkson to the bench) and you have the potential for a long armed switching defensive monster in the vein of GS.

Really liked that game. Looks MUCH more under control, less risky. Lots of look away passes, but they were basic passes.

Defense wasn't too tight on Russell until the second half, but he looked absolutely great out there. Poised and patient, but very efficient.

25 for kobe's deal and another 13-15 for the cap increase, minus a few small raises.

1. Okafor

3. Russell
4. Stanley Johnson
5. Mudiay
6. Oubre
7. WCS

Russell offensive game is so efficient but I do have a concern on how he will be able to guard quick PGs or bigger SGs. I've seen guards in the past few games drive right pass him. I don't think he's going to test well at the combine. He's still in my top 5 but stock call fall if he doesn't test well.

Main thing about today, his jump shot wasn't on, so he went in and got fouled and got his points that way(8-10 from the free throw line). Still got his assists and rebounds but it showed when one isn't working he goes for something else.

It's a small something but it's a very good trait.

Video of him in LA for Wooden Awards.

He'd look great in P&G.

Jerry West award?

Received it in LA?
I dusted off NBA 2k for the first time in a while and simulated a whole season and drafted...Russell.

Isn't the cap increase more like $23 million?

Watched the footage on Russell. Good feel, but speed with the ball and jumper not top tier. I'd pass on him at #2.

I'm guessing you wouldn't have picked Curry as a rookie either. It's not like every elite player has superhuman athleticism.

I think Russell is the pick.

We need a flashy player with star quality. He reminds me a lot of a lefty Curry with amazing handles and court vision. His shot isn't as good as Curry but he's much more of a pure point. He makes people look silly off the dribble. Watching him as a freshman it's incredible how poised he is. He always seems to make the right pass. He gets lots of hockey assists too.

I think he looks the part and backs it up on the court. The bigs are too risky in my opinion. There's just not a great track record with 7 footers over the last few years.

My idea- see if Philly or NY wants Okafor (or Towns if he's available) and trade down to 3 or 4 to pick Russell. I think if we pass on him we'll regret it down the line.

Curry is really quick with the ball, and plays with fast pace in the half court - navigating around screens, etc.
I also think that Russell's speed/quicks is the decision maker on him. If he had those, you could be 100% sure that he'd be a star at the next level. I think we'd have to be 100% sure of the perimeter player to draft him over one of the two bigs. Maybe that's not smart in today's game, but i think that's the FOs thinking. Mitch insinuated we're going big on Cowherd's show today.

Too bad Philly is sure to pick Russell at #3, we need to pick him at #2 if we want him. I doubt they want either of the big men since they already have Noel and Embiid.
