DLo can only get a 3yr extension (via extend & trade rule), where the remainder of this season counts as a year towards the extension.
DLo in the summer can get a 5yr extension (technically a new deal) this summer, where it would be actual 5 additional years rather than just 2, had he extend later than now.
From the Cap Q&A thread…
Quote: | So which Laker players are eligible to sign extensions now and for how much?
DLo (via extend & trade)
Up to 2yrs/77.3m (expiring summer of ‘25)
Beas (via team opt-out for the upcoming 23/24 season)
Has to be a minimum of 2yrs but up to 4yrs/84.3m (expiring summer of ‘27)
Which Lakers can be extended this offseason and for how much?
AD (via 24/25 season ETO becoming guaranteed)
Up to 3 additional yrs/168m (expiring summer of ‘28)
Beas (via team opt-in @16.5m for the upcoming 23/24 season)
Up to 4 additional yrs/96.7m (expiring summer of ‘28)
Vando
Up to 4 additional yrs/58.5m (expiring summer of ‘28)

We have three or four agenda driven posters who are very aggressive and post multiple times a day. We all know who they are. They constantly get their facts wrong. That's because they really don't care about anything except bashing particular players, so they assume that anything which makes the player they want to bash look bad is true. |

Good game by DLo. Plays with so much poise as a ball handler and very effective as a shooter off the ball as well.
Anyone saw DLo and AR "too small" celebration recreated on the sidelines? It was hilarious. 😂 They showed it on Bulls broadcast. _________________ Showtime 2.0 |

I'm so proud of DLo. You can see the growth in his game and his maturity on the court. He plays even keeled and makes smart plays. He made some smart defensive plays out there too, and he's pretty effective at stripping his defender when beat.
He forced Caruso into a bad airball with his excellent rotation defensively that took Caruso by surprise.
I don't remember DLo finishing this well when he was with us, he must have added that to his game because now he feels like the anti Fisher around the rim, just making all kinds of shots around the basket. |

I notice that he's been finishing strong as well, making up for his below average athleticism with his craftiness. Certainly a nice change from Russ and PatBev who often looked awkward at the rim. _________________ Luxury Tax/FA Spreadsheet (Save to your Google Drive to edit) |

Whether you like him or don’t…whether you think he’s a core piece or could be flipped later for one…you utilizes your resources far more effectively by keeping him (and all our other FAs) on the roster, to flip em for another day, rather than renounce all their rights and lose them for 30-35m in cap space.
You gotta do what makes sense, instead of doing what makes the owners cent$. _________________ Not familiar with the salary cap/CBA rules & how it impacts our Lakers?

Great stats, and meaningful stats because he compliments LBJ's and AD's games, rather than taking away from it. DLO and Reaves can both create offense for themselves and for others, and both can thrive with or without the ball in their hands. |

While he is awesome, this specific time it was due to Ham's brain-dead hockey subs. |

Russell just feels like the calm in the storm for us. No matter what role he's playing out there, 1st option, 2nd option, 3rd option, 4th option, point guard, combo guard, primary playmaker, secondary playmaker, third playmaker. He just seems to fit and whenever things are going awry he seems to bring it back to Earth for us in a positive way. He's been a fantastic fit and feels like a perfect puzzle piece fit for the team.
Holding onto him is a must. I get similar feelings I got when we got Pau back in 2008 with how perfectly he just blended into what we were trying to do and everything seemed to work and flow so much easier because of it. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Small sample size since he has been hurt quite a bit since being acquired. His on/off court stats are ridiculous though as a Laker.
DLO: +13.9
AD: +4.2
Lebron: +4.2
Reaves: +3.2
Schroder: +2.5
Rui: -0.3
Wenyen: -0.3
Brown: -0.6
Malik: -2.1
Vanderbilt: -2.4
Mo: -4
Christie: -7.3
Lonnie: -7.4
He's doing something right. |

If you dig really really deep into this thread, I bet you'll find a few posts from me saying that DLO would be an ideal #3 on a championship level team. Probably said this around 2016sh. He had all those skills you would want on offense and at PG enough size to switch over defensively on bigger guards.
The main concern with AD/Bron/DLO is health. Not any of them based on recent years (last 3) have shown they will stay healthy enough. But when healthy, the chemistry and skill level their is insane.
To win a ring though, I think we need (obviously health), good strong playoff coaching, and at least 1 other elite defensive player in that group that is not a liability shooting the ball. Vandy is a liability on offense shooting the ball, the better defensive teams will cheat off AD/Vandy. |

This is what Lebron and the front office envisioned with the ill-advised Schroeder trade and the disastrous Westbrook trade. A PG that could lessen Lebron's offensive load and run the offense competently when he's on the bench or sidelined with an injury. |

Really, that says more about the bench than it does about Russell. Schroder just didn't have anything going last night. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved |
