Olivari doesn't belong in the G League. I don't know if he belongs in the NBA, but he's clearly too good for this. |

Bronny is a dud. You're confused. If he had talent, you know Ken Griffey’s , Kobe & dad for example,…that is something.
This is much to do about a guy who could not even start in high school
or college…

But impatient Lakers fans keep saying "cut him" "trade him" after less than a year and a half. They learn nothing from the impatience with Pippen Jr, or even Jay Huff. |

Honestly hard to take much away from G League scoring. JHS looked great last year in the G League, but was obviously unplayable in actual nba minutes. We saw Max Lewis in SL and pre-season, and he was nearly as bad. There’s a big difference when you’re going to be the man with a green light against lesser talent compared to being a guy who is going to be expected to defer to actual stars in a league where the worst players are better than the vast majority of the best players in the G League.
Max has potential (just like JHS), but so far they’ve shown themselves to be unplayable at the NBA level. Hopefully that changes (the sooner the better). |

One thing I've noticed in watching the g-league is that a remarkably large numbers players don't belong and deserve a shot in the NBA. The issue is that NBA is so talented and competitive that there's only room for a handful of these players, and the "best" g-league player (subjective) typically ends up being a bench warmer or the 12th man (see guys like Jordan McRae or Vander Blue).
The players that do thrive are the niche guys that specialize in specific roles (defense, rim protection, etc). Players like Caruso, GPII, Danny Green, Nwaba made defense their calling card and moved up the ranks. To that end, I think Olivari deserves a shot and possibly rotation minutes, but he has to do other things well to earn more PT. The question will be whether he's able to defend at an NBA level or not.
This is also good news for Bronny because we can't just look at his scoring numbers and say he's not NBA material, although he should be able to space the floor at a reasonable rate. If he excels in other departments, then he'll definitely have a roster spot in the NBA. He needs to go all GPII in the g-league and play with tenacity on defense. I just question whether he has the motivation or not to do it, given that he has it all laid out for him. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

Based on this game it's clear Olivari warrants some NBA time, to see if his game translates. He played well in preseason as well.
I liked how Traore and Koloko contributed. Particularly Traore. We obviously need to develop bigs, when we're in a pinch it's nice to have them available for the NBA squad.
Max Lewis looked very solid at this level. Wish it could translate, is he better than he was last year at SB?
Bronny... good defense against competition that won't destroy a 6'1" scoring guard, but he's no Caruso, not by a million miles, and that's how good his defense would have to be to make up for his 5 turnovers and terrible shooting. Better 2 man game than I expected, willing to pass at least. Decent second rotation or situational player at the G League level. I am not excited about seeing him in a Laker uniform until his game warrants it. I think the marketing fervor is going to fade unless he plays a lot better than he did last night.
Last note - looks like we found a much better coach for this squad? Nice game last night overall. |

Not only do I think Quincy can play, but he just seems like a really quality guy. They asked him about you know his games since he was a leading scorer and you know basically killed it and he turned it into how well Bronny did and how happy he was for him. I think the G league is gonna be great for Bronny he just really needs to develop and be supported. Hopefully they'll leave him be and not pull him to play with the big club every five seconds for no reason. On the flipside I hope they do pull Quincy periodically to let him play with the big club. And maybe try MaxL again too, to see where he's at. |
