Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney to former President Donald Trump, joins CNN’s Don Lemon and Alisyn Camerota to discuss the former president’s indictment by a New York grand jury.
(Trump indicted: Arrest comes next, Mueller vet says 'no kings' in U.S.)
Quote:
Donald Trump becomes the first former president ever indicted. A Manhattan grand jury voting to criminally charge Trump. MSNBC Chief Legal Correspondent Ari Melber is joined by Andrew Weissman, former FBI General Counsel and veteran of the Mueller special counsel investigation. Weissman calling the indictment “a testament to the American justice system and the rule of law” adding the U.S. “is joining a number of countries around the globe where people are held to account” and public officials aren’t shielded “from crimes he committed before he was president, during the time he was president, or after the time he was president.”
The unconfirmed public reports on the sheer number of counts suggest conspiracy charges, extending to payments on each of the 11 checks Trump signed for Cohen.

I'm not saying you are wrong. But just for today, I'm gonna bask in the hope that nobody is above the law. Sorry, I don't mean to be anyone's kill joy. But the realities of what this country has become, and what it is threatening to be, are just too foreboding and disheartening for me, personally, to find any joy in tiny "victories" that I am certain will go nowhere. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

We don't know what the charges are yet. I don't. You don't.
Yes, odds are Trump probably won't do time on this one, but Michael Cohen already served jail time for this exact same crime. So it's not a 100% lock that Trump escapes completely.
And his CFO Alan Weisselberg is currently serving time for financial crimes. Trump Org was also convicted for financial crimes but Companies don't go to jail, only people do.
And Manafort served time for financial crimes and only got out because Trump pardoned him.
A conman lawyer and a former President are two completely different things, as are those other examples.
I admire your optimism and commend you for it in the face of everything that has gone on for 6 plus years. But I have none at this point, because the writing is on the wall as far as I am concerned. Hopefully my cynicism proves to be incorrect, but I'm too old to hold my breath for that. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

(Donald Trump INDICTED! What will happen when he's booked by the police & arraigned by the judge?)
Quote:
An important barrier has been broken: a former president of the United States has been indicted for his crimes. This historic development goes a long way to breathing life into what seemed like a hollow promise - that no persons is above the law.
The day that many of us thought would never come has finally arrived as Donald Trump was indicted by the Manhattan Grand Jury for his role in the Stormy Daniels hush money case, Trump “truthed” a statement lashing out, now that he has been indicted he has no choice but to turn himself in for processing, Donald Trump Jr. jumped in with a special edition of his podcast to lament and fight back against the long arm of the law, Ivanka has vowed to stay out of all of this, when the news came in Fox was busy whining about Trans athletes in college sports, we got more insight into what went down at Fox News after the election, George Santos answered a bunch of questions on Fox News and he also has a great new product available.

. . . . . .
The dude has been threatening the American people, it's elected officials and the very core of the it's democracy for years now, but now a judge is finally going to do something about it?

What was a judge able to do before? The difference is now he’s actually under indictment.

That's my whole point. The DOJ and all kinds of other prosecutorial entities have had the opportunity to act on this treasons threats for years, but none have. But now a NY judge is going to actually do something that kind of behavior . . . ?
I'll believe it when I see it. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

There's a reason to be skeptical but the difference is that a single actual judge has legal jurisdiction over the trial in his/her courtroom and over the participants. The judge alone has the authority to issue a gag order if they choose and it has nothing to do with any other government entity's decision making process, past, present or future. I think the judge would have a pretty high bar for issuing a gag order in this high profile case but that's different than proclaiming it will never happen because it hasn't happened up to now. Well Trump was never criminally indicted until now either. We are in new territory, IMO.
Trump never changes. He's a criminal piece of (bleep) lowlife cretin. The fact that 70M voted for this trash is sadly a thousand times more pathetic than Trump's attack on this judge.

The New York grand jury indictment against former President Trump contains about 30 counts of document fraud-related charges, according to two sources familiar with the matter. NBC's Laura Jarrett has details.

One of the things that’s so critical about this being a state—rather than a federal—charge is that the outcome of this case is going to be decided by a jury of Trump’s peers, not a backroom secret arrangement with Barr about how sitting presidents can’t be indicted, nor a presidential pardon, or anything else.
Because this is a State not Federal charge, and from before Trump was President, all the nonsense delay tactics Trump has used in the past won't work.
No Executive Privilege
No Speech or Debate Immunity
No Immunity as a Sitting President
The trial will happen.
In other words, a regular jury of New Yorkers will decide his guilt or innocence.

And when the jurors get death threats like the women and girls he raped who tried to take him to court?
Nobody has ever faced a case where the defendant cannot be incarcerated
If only the USAF would have done as I asked and bombed the terrorist compound in FL where the stolen government documents were being stored we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with what prison to put trump in

The GOP is evil, for the most part, really evil.
How these low life's support Trump is crazy.
Watching them all call this a democratic targeted indictment is crazy too. Trump is a lifetime criminal....everyone knows that....he is finally getting what has been due to him for decades....
Watching them all squirm makes me sick. They are all evil.
Evil people, trying to spin this...
Keep bringing up Hilary or Bill or whoever....
This is not about them....
It's about your evil leader, Donny.
What a horrible time in history...how this guy ever became president, I will never understand....and I hope and pray that history is horrible to him and to all the ones that supported him....
