If you already know someone will lie dozens of times before you air your show, if you barely try to debunk some of his lies during your show, if you have a post-show show where you talk about his lies that you knew he would tell before the show and then barely confronted during the show, you're engaging in misinformation. You can't just blame it on Trump, you are to blame.

I've never held polls in high regard. IMO the administration has accomplishments to boast about when the time comes. Run on records as opposed to Repuklican positions. Roe vs Wade, attack on women's rights to name 2.

When Hillary Clinton called them a basket of deplorables, she was right. Except it's not a basket, it's the vast majority of all Republicans.

Quote:
Brynn Tannehill @BrynnTannehill
3h • 13 tweets • 3 min read Twitter logo Read on Twitter

A ton of ink (virtual or otherwise) has already been spilled on Trump and CNN. Obviously it was Trump at his most awful. And obviously CNN did our country a disservice by hosting what was effectively a Trump rally. But, there's an angle that's missing from the discussion. 1/n

Namely, the audience. These were all Trump supporters. Republicans and independents who were supporters of the former President. Clinton called them a "basket of deplorables" in 2016, and they got offended.

Last night was a reminder she was right. 2/n

They laughed and cheered as Trump mocked the woman he was found liable for sexually assaulting. He was cheered when he called "moderator" Kaitlan Collins "a nasty woman." They eagerly devoured the myriad of lies he told about EVERYTHING. 3/n

It was a Gish Gallop, right down to claiming he would end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours without giving details. (Hint: there's no way the US could do that, even if we cut off aid immediately. Ukraine would keep fighting and looking for alternate suppliers of arms.) 4/n

And they believe it all. They LOVE it all. The cruelty is the point. They love Trump and Putin and Orban. They love Jesus too, and have claimed all of American Christianity for their own. They've destroyed its reputation in the process. 5/n

For most decent people, who don't laugh at people for being raped, seeing someone wearing a cross is a big warning sign: this person is not safe. This person is not kind. This person does not even vaguely live in the same reality the rest of us do. 6/n

And yes, this thread will get a lot of "not all Christians" messages here. But these folks are at the spearhead a fascist movement that revels in cruelty, domination, and abuse of power. Not everyone that wore a swastika pin was bad, but there weren't many Oskar Schindlers. 7/n

But, above all else, last night was a reminder of what America under Trump was, and will be again if we put him back in office. Cruel, theocratic, vulgar, misogynistic, unmoored from reality, ignorant, immune to evidence, and racist. 8/n

These are not good people, even if they believe their religious beliefs make them inherently good. This is a movement centered on grievances and vengeance against enemies of the herrenvolk. What we saw are the true believers Milton Mayer wrote about. 9/n

Hardly anyone will read this. And even if it goes viral, it still isn't enough. But for those that do read it, I hope it reminds you that what is coming is dark beyond all belief. They want vengeance on those they believe they have tolerated for too long. 10/n

There is no bottom: there is no point at which his supporters will say, "No, we're going too far, this is wrong." These are people with an axe to grind, and without empathy for anyone who seen as an enemy. 11/n

If the 2nd Trump administration was putting trans people through tree shredders, his supporters would demand that they be dipped in lemon juice first.

Last night was a chilling reminder not only can it happen here, it WILL happen here if we get a second Trump term. 12/n

P.S. The best Christian ambassadors (to me) have always been the ones who don't proclaim it loudly or insist that people MUST share their faith exactly as they do. The examples they set for decency, kindness, and empathy were their sales pitch. (See: Fred Rogers)

Just unfollowed everyone at CNN. They should be ashamed. It's one thing to cover a speech.... another to give such a despicable human being a paid infomercial. They actively contributed to the destruction of democracy.

Chairman and CEO of CNN.

Quote:
Chris Licht begins CNN's 9am editorial call by praising @kaitlancollins
for a "masterful performance last night." He says "I couldn't be more proud of her" and the whole team in NH. Then he says he's aware of the backlash... More to come

Quote:
"You do not have to like the former president's answers, but you can't say that we didn't get them," Licht tells staffers, many of whom are angry about the town hall. "Kaitlan pressed him again and again and made news. Made a LOT of news." And "that is our job."

Quote:
"While we all may have been uncomfortable hearing people clapping, that was also an important part of the story," Licht adds, because those folks represent "a large swath of America," and the media screwed up by missing that part of the story in 2015/16.

Quote:
Covering Trump is "tricky and messy," Licht says, and it will "continue to be messy and tricky, but it's our job." He confidently says "America was served very well by what we did last night." Many CNN employees strongly disagree.

The rest is just lies by a guy who wants to be the next Roger Ailes.

Just in: CNN's town hall with Donald Trump averaged 3.1 million total viewers. The event outrated Fox and MSNBC, as expected, but these are not 2015/16 level numbers for Trump — not even close.

In the key 25- to 54-year-old demo, the town hall averaged 703,000, about five times higher than CNN's typical performance at 8pm.

and they saw nothing new other than an audience that apparently laughed at an assault victim.

I wonder if the decline in CNN viewership is because of programs like the Trump Town Hall. In first quarter 2023 primetime, CNN reported an average audience of 568,000 viewers, ranking 14th among all cable networks. Year-over-year viewership declined by -34% and by -12% compared to fourth quarter 2022.Mar 29, 2023.

Its the entire package. Isn't this the reason why they are trying stuff like giving a show to Charles Barkley and Gayle King? They are just throwing stuff out there to try to make things stick.

The post right above yours says that in the key demo, five times more viewers than usual.
But if you're talking about a longer term trend, I believe there is a lot of mistrust of news media generally, certainly CNN included.
I doubt the Trump CNN show had much of an impact on anyone's minds. Everyone has made up their minds about him long ago based on tons of info. No one can be surprised by what he or CNN or the audience did or said yesterday.

CNN's ratings returned to their abysmal primetime numbers the day after the Trump Show.

Which means he'll be back a few more times.
