I hate to “defend” Trump, but the actual quote was he’s “become like a Palestinian”.
Though of course, in Trump speak, calling someone a Palestinian is a racial slur . . . |
No, he said he's become a member of Hamas. I saw the clip. It's right after the Palestinian part.

I stand corrected. Interesting how some articles left that part out. _________________ HARRIS WALZ 2024 |

Kaitlan tried her best, and did better than do other CNN hosts, but on CNN, Republicans always just bulldoze their way through an "interview"--which it really isn't as they don't answer questions, they respond by asking their own questions, and generally just want to overtalk and/or interrupt. CNN does themselves and the viewing audience a disservice here in their attempt to be balanced.
Of note however, he did give us a good example of how they will attack Kamala. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

If it is shapiro for vice president the Democrats are gonna have a problem with some of the extreme progressive members. I just hope they don't disrupt the convention like they did in 2016. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold.

The power dynamic within journalism has changed. In days of yore, network television was the best channel for politicians to reach the masses. As a result, journalists had the power to ask contentious questions and demand answers. With the advent to the Internet, the power dynamic has changed. You see it on Sunday news programs. The journalists lob more softball questions, as they want to be able to book guests. If they are confrontational (like The McLaughlin Group), they will have trouble booking or re-booking guests.
I'm not a fan of Kaitlan Collins, but I appreciate that television journalism has changed for the worse.
I think the best practice for a journalist is to lob a softball question that invites an unhinged response. Think of it like late night talk radio show: If you have a caller with a contrary opinion, invite them to expand on that opinion by lobbing a softball question and letting them have the last word. Most extremists or crazies will take the bait and run with an unhinged opinion. |

Sure, that has value, but so does getting real answers to real questions. Think of the interview with Trump yesterday when he was asked about why blacks should vote for him when he's said all those nasty things about black reporters, prosecutors, etc. It's a good question that deserves a real answer. Since Republicans have such (bleep) views on just about everything any more, they rarely give answers to any question of substance. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

We no longer exist in that perfect world where real questions are posed, and real answers are given. We have candidates with staff that prescreen questions, or the candidates are handed questions in advance. It's all too rare to have an interview like Trump gave the NABJ.
Even at yesterday's NABJ interview, it wasn't contentious questions that killed Trump. Trump came in with his usual, divisive rhetoric that works with white audiences, which is to separate people into ethnic tribes with an "us versus them" tactic. In short, he thought he could divide black support by pointing out Harris was also brown. It failed miserably. The failure wasn't the result of a confrontational question, he was dodging confrontational questions. Whether dodging a confrontational question, or answering a softball lob question, Trump will veer off into one of his pre-rehearsed, unhinged talking points. In short, he came prepared with those remarks, and he was going to dictate them to the audience without regard to the actual question asked. A friendly outlet like Fox would have edited that response out of its newscast.
The bottom-line it isn't the "real" question" that matters, at least not as much as the venue. If a softball question is lobbed in an open, live venue, Trump will provide a "real answer" by saying something crazy, even stupid. What triggered Trump wasn't confrontational questions, it is Harris' surge in the polls. That's why he chose to be interviewed at the NABJ. With Biden in the race, Trump was playing golf with the knowledge he'd win. With Harris threatening to overtake him, he's back on the road being Trump.
There are no real questions with Trump. He doesn't have answers as he doesn't have policies. What's important is getting him on stage in an open venue. |

I guess we see this a bit differently. Generally speaking what you say is far more true for Republicans than Democrats. Democrats get the hard questions and usually give real answers. Besides, if you want soft-ball questions just spend about 33 seconds at Fox and you'll find any one of many more than willing to accommodate. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Nate Silver says the race is a toss up now. This is from his daily news letter.
Quote: | With Kamala Harris having another day of reasonably strong polling, we’re now officially in the zone where we can call the race a toss-up. She has a 54 percent chance of winning Michigan, a 50 percent chance of winning Wisconsin, a 47 percent chance of winning Pennsylvania, and a 45 percent chance of winning the Electoral College. |

Wonder what Silver's model says about Arizona and Georgia. Arizona & Nevada feel a bit tough but maybe Georgia is gettable with big black turnout? It'd let Dems lose Wisconsin or Michigan |

Saw a tweet from 7 mo ago where Shapiro calls Netanyahu "one of the worst leaders of all time"
I don't think his Israel/ Gaza stance will be an issue, and to the extent that he still alienates some on the left, I think he will make up for it by assuaging people who think the Dems will go too soft on Israel (which is a lot of people, unfortunately) |

That's good but she has to win by 2.5 to 3 points to win the election. About half way there. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |
