Funny thing about that 1998 Yankees team and that 2001 Mariners squad. Neither were supposed to have the seasons they had. I remember going into 1998, the Cleveland Indians were supposed to represent the AL and funny enough, lots of people thought the Dodgers would represent the NL. Its not hard to figure why. The Indians were coming off the WS and they had two bona-fide future aces on their squad/one who just threw the game of his life in Game 7 of the 1997 WS - Jaret Wright and Bartolo Colon. Great lineup of hitters and Charles Nagy/Dave Burba/Dwight Gooden behind the young aces. The Dodgers were finally going to break out of their run of futility with the core of their lineup and pitching staff that could compare to the Braves ready to break out. The Yankees were viewed as an old team with no true Ace (Yankees had push hard to sign Clemens and he inexplicably chose the Blue Jays over Steinbrenner forcing the Yankees to go with their backup plan - David Wells) and no real MVP caliber player in their lineup - that team did not have a single player who hit 30 HRs.
On a side note, I think I started posting in the Dodgers thread since 2017. Time goes by so fast. I giess its true what people say. As you get older time goes by faster.
Shohei Ohtani today underwent successful arthroscopic surgery, performed in Los Angeles by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, to repair a labrum tear that resulted from a left shoulder dislocation Oct. 26. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

This should be an easy off-season. Resign most our FA's and run this back!
Same here! I'm constantly watching highlights of the previous series and game 1 of the WS still in disbelief.
Like so many things had to go our way to pull out game 1 of the WS. It's like finally after years of torture, the baseball gods finally were on our side!

Of course there it is....the labrum tear......so much for the reports that he is fine and that there was no further damage.

At least it wasn’t his pitching arm! This should be about the end of his stealing days though.

He'll still steal some bases, but never again will he even approach 40, and maybe not even 30.

It was Rickey Henderson who once said he felt he could hit 0.340 and hit 30-40 HRs if he did not have to steal bases. Apparently it definitely takes a toll on the body if you are a consistent base thief.
