“Charles Oakley came to the game tonight and behaved in a highly inappropriate and completely abusive manner,” the Knicks said in a statement. “He has been ejected and is currently being arrested by the New York City Police Department. He was a great Knick and we hope he gets some help.”

According to Mike Vorkunov, Oakley was handcuffed and said, “"I didn't do nothing! [Knicks owner James] Dolan did this...This is (bleep)*t."
Play was halted as Oakley exited the arena and the crowd started chanting "Oakley! Oakley!" Knicks President Phil Jackson met Oakley in the tunnel and tried to calm him down, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.
Oakley played for the Knicks from 1998 to 1998. |

Looked like it. Dolan sat there purposely not noticing it. One of those things. Oak is a bird of a different feather. Just saw him on a recent HBO Real Sports. He goes down to a Florida clinic to support Jayson Williams' (manslaughter) rehab efforts. They showed him playing 1:1 with Jayson and BBQing ribs for the residents.

He's banned from MSG and is charged with 3 counts of assault apparently
I thought Doc's response was funny a part of him wanted to go down there but then he thought what could he possibly have done(I forgot they used to be teammates) |

That was about 7 years ago he left due to back issues. He has a couple of restaurants and is a full time cook now. Owns a couple of car washes as well. |

Oakley claims he did nothing but sit in his seat and then security came over and asked him to leave. He says he tried to explain that he bought the seat, had every right to be there, and that's when things got ugly.
Now, clearly, even if his version is accurate, he had no right to put his hands on the security personnel and on any police officers. That is not acceptable under any circumstances. But it would make the Knicks also look terrible, if Dolan wanted him out of the building just because he was close to him.
If he's lying, and if he was yelling at Dolan and being belligerent before the officers/security personnel got to him, then it really looks horrible for Oakley. Mike & Mike are on right now and Mike Greenberg is saying he believes Oakley's account, given the track record of Dolan and given Oakley's track record. They noted that John McEnroe was sitting right there, so he must certainly know what all went down. They have left messages with him, and I'm sure many outlets have.
With that in mind, I'm sure we'll know fairly soon who is telling the truth. |

| Ian Begley just said on Mike & Mike that a person who was sitting in the same section as Oakley told him that Oakley was, indeed, yelling things and was loud before security arrived. That was my gut feeling, to be honest. He was so inappropriate afterward that I didn't think it was believable that he could be totally calm and then just snap like that. It made more sense that he was angry beforehand and it just continued. |

Whenever I think of Oakley I'm reminded of the 1999 offseason when I was hoping he would be a Laker. Back then getting a decent PF was a really big deal with players like Malone, Rasheed Wallace, Barkley and Duncan giving the Lakers a lot of problems.
Lol I know I must have read this exact article almost 20 years ago and was pretty annoyed. Oh well, I'm glad it didn't happen now.

He had no interest in signing with the Lakers, he was just engaging in a game of brinkmanship with the Raptors. He lost that game as well, as the Raptors renounced him, losing his Bird Rights. At that point Oakley came back to Toronto with his tail between his legs, and re-signed with the remaining Raptor cap space, which was higher than what the Lakers (or anyone else) could offer, but far less than what he was demanding. |

what are you supporting exactly? you think it's OK for you to shove other people just because you can't control your emotions? heck, jails and prisons and filled with people who are there because they couldn't control their emotions. |

Loved Oakley, but I would like to introduce you to Maurice Lucas.
Is this a big deal? I was traveling for work and had the 710 morning show on when I got out of the car but when I got in SAS's show was on and he was making a huge deal out of it. He also said Oakley was charged with trespassing even though he bought a ticket for the game. He mentioned that Phil said some questionable things as well but didn't go into detail. After 5 minutes I had to change the station.

Not leaving when specifically asked is trespassing. Getting a refund when removed is a civil issue. (not a lawyer) |

Oakley was on SAS espn this morning. He said he hasn't received a letter or any notification banning him from the garden. He said Micheal Jordan reached him last night, told him he'd get on a plane to come get him out of jail. He said no, he'd do this on his own.
Oak said he didn't say anything to Dolan. He said he was approached by security and told they had orders to ask him to leave. That's when things got out of hand. He said security has been following him around the garden for years, even when he went to the bathroom.
Charles said he's been trying to meet with Dolan for years to discuss how the organization treated NY vets. He hasn't been able to.
Oakley is a New Yorker with a voice known to many. He seems to be speaking for many of them. They want Phil Jackson gone, Camelo Anthony to stay. Spike Lee, New York's #1 fan said he'd pack Phil's bags for him.
I'm not a Jim Buss fan but if he was instrumental in not hiring Phil seems like he made the right decision. Great coach, horrible GM.

After the Oakley deal fell through, the Lakers picked up 36 year old AC Green a few days later which worked out well, despite not being the ideal way to go. Ron Harper signed about a month later and I remember when some people on USENET weren't too thrilled that the team had gotten old overnight. |

I do remember Green. Chris Webber and Rasheed Wallace gave Green and Horry a lot of problems in the playoffs. But the team still won a 67 games and a title (and two more after that) which is why I don't mind Oakley staying with the Raptors.
It's been long enough that I had forgotten some of the details though. The Lakers offer was a joke compared to the Raptors offer. Maybe as a teenager I was just mad he didn't want to play with Shaq/Kobe/Rice and for Phil Jackson. |
