Instead of a bunch of professional golfers playing a video game simulation wouldn't a better concept to be to revive the Monday Night golf format that they used to show on free TV?
Would you get moments like this:

I also wanted to comment about the TGL stuff. It's thoroughly unentertaining. I literally would enjoy watching strict video game play more than that. It's very clear that it's just guesswork when the golfer hits the ball into the screen. A couple of weeks ago I saw Tiger and Kevin Kisner hitting wedge shots that were literally not even close to landing on the green. Meanwhile, I saw Theegala hit a mid-iron shot that he came right out of and had an immediate reaction of a golfer who's clearly not struck it well, and it just landed right on the green. Also saw two shots land in bunkers and yet the ball just spilled right out of the bunker, as if it was a low burning shot and the bunker was water and the ball just skipped right out of it.
Not a good watch at all.
I'm enjoying it for the informal, mic'ed up aspect and the fun loving gamesmanship more than the golf itself. It's like a scramble/wolf with the buddies . . . but without the drinking. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

Flipped it to the TGL thing again. Watched one hole. I find it unwatchable. They get to the "green" and it might as well be miniature golf that you're watching. It just feels so fake and gimmicky to me. Just not a fan of the watch in the least.
Finally a competitive match. Rory threw down the hammer and Tiger had to make a 7’7” putt to avoid giving up the lead.
edit: Jupiter wins in overtime! Great finish. Keegan Bradley with a 3-putt on the last hole to allow Tom Kim to send it to overtime after duffing his first shot out of the sand.

I can see why some would feel that way.
But to me, after decades of watching stuffy old golf broadcasts with all the formality and pompousness it entails, watching something that doesn't take itself way too seriously and allows itself to make fun of itself and just have a good time is a refreshing way to watch a game I love to play played the way I like to play it . . . for fun and having a good time with friends.
To me, it's great to see professional golf final take the stick out of its ass. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

I know you aren't going to like this, but this is kind of what I feel the LIV telecast is like. You get team golf, you hear music playing, and you get it wrapped up faster because of the shotgun start. The broadcast feels more fresh and less stuffy. And you get recognizable names each tournament. The signature events on the PGA Tour still have big names but the "normal" tournaments now are full of no-names. They are really good players so I don't mean to suggest that the skill isn't there, but yeah, that leaderboard at Torrey on Sunday wasn't exactly scintillating. I'd certainly understand those who can't get into LIV because one might feel like it all feels so contrived and doesn't have any prestige, but I do like seeing recognizable golfers on my TV screen.

I’m well aware of what LIV is and does. And I know you know that the dynamics, motivations and associations behind LIV are very different than those of the TGL.
You like LIV and hate TGL. As I said, I can see why some wouldn’t like the TGL format. I think it’s a fun diversion from the traditional game. I don’t think TGL will last, but I’m going to enjoy it while it does.
And if you don’t recognize Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Ricky Fowler, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffle, Shane Lowry . . . That’s a whole other conversation. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

I'm sorry, but watching as Rory throws the hammer after Tiger lips a 5 footer only to lip his own putt as well is entertaining AF. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

It’s a competition. Whatever the sport, a competition is lost entertaining when it is close at the end of the game. This was the first time that TgL was competitive down to the end. Tiger made a 7.5” putt to maintain the lead. Bradley chocked and 3-putted on the final hole to go to OT. Whatever the format, competitive formats are most exciting when they go to the final wire. The previous TgL matches were total beat downs.

True, but that's not the fault of the format, that lies on the participants. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

To me, competition is not enough to make something entertaining or compelling. Anything can be close and competitive. I'm sure some people love to watch pickleball. That will never be me. In fact, ESPN showed a pickleball match (perhaps last year) with Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, and Maria Sharapova. Agassi is my favorite athlete of all time and no one else will ever come close. I had absolutely zero interest in watching my favorite tennis player ever play pickleball...and they weren't hitting balls into a screen, they were actually playing the actual game that is pickleball. I'm sure miniature golf competitions happen and I'm sure it's come down to the last hole. That's not something that will ever interest me. I could name a million things that are competitions: frisbee golf, chess, all poker events except for the No Limit Hold 'Em Main Event at the World Series of Poker, or even sports like swimming and gymnastics and figure skating. Those latter 3 sports, I have no interest in watching that in non-Olympic years. But put it as part of the Olympics, where now you introduce importance and prestige, and I'm interested.
As far as Tiger and/or Rory talking smack to each other, you could have that if you televised them playing video games and one of them beats the other. That would be the same effect to me. You're hitting a ball into a screen and where it says it lands is guesswork. Then they are putting on a fake green or chipping from fake grass or hitting out of a fake bunker. Just doesn't feel right to me. Feels like a gimmick. But hey, different strokes for different folks!

Man you really have cartoon level hate for TGL. 😀
But as I said before, I can see it’s not for everyone, and ultimately I think that will lead to its demise, but for now, it’s a “gimmick” I enjoy; something sort of silly and irreverent at a time my mind needs that diversion . . . lord knows the NFL has become kind of joke. 😏
Meanwhile, in the world of real golf, the Pebble Beach Pro Am is upon us. One of my favorites. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

Rory slam dunks an ace at the ProAm . . . no golf simulator screen or fake green involved. 😉 _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

Five of the 6 players atop the PB leader board are euro players from the Ryder Cup team. The other is Korea’s Kim. Almost had a Lowry/Rory final pairing, which would have been fun. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

Rory was on this week, and iced it on the back 9 by going eagle-birdie on 14 and 15, I think it was. Also, there are few things more beautiful on a TV screen than the scenery at Pebble Beach. I'd still choose to play Augusta National if I had one round of golf anywhere I wanted, but I think Pebble might be my second choice.

To be fair to CS, TGL is pro wrestling meets survivor by way of the apprentice level awful. I’d rather go to a K-pop concert with candycanes _________________ Hoy por ellos, mañana por nosotros

To be kind: that’s an absolutely asinine analogy. _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."

Watch Pebble Beach winner Rory McIlroy go head to head with 3rd place finisher Justin Rose as Boston faces LA in TGL . . . _________________ "You know it seems the more we talk about it, it only makes it worse to live without it."
Another TGL blowout. Not so fun when it isn’t competitive. Last week was epic. Tiger had to make that 7’ putt to maintain the lead after the hammer was thrown. Then the choked sand shot and the 3-putt to push the match to overtime. We need some more competitive matches in this TGL..
