Yup when he's healthy he's the best defensive big, arguably the best defender overall. It's a travesty he hasn't been on the All-Defensive team since 2020 nor won the DPOY.

His rim protection is why we don't need to dive and leave shooters open defensively.

AD what a defensive beast! Those 2 b2b blacks were just beautiful to watch and prevented from the momentum from shifting back the Knicks after those 2 b2b turnovers.

Injuries. Not like he wasn't worthy. If Giannis was injury proned, he wouldn't have won it either.

unless he is drawn away from the rim with the switching. it happens quite often and i don't know why every team doesn't exploit it.

Another dominant game. Seems like the last 3 or 4 baskets he scored were off of offensive rebounds since he wasn't getting the ball in the half court in the second half

Anyone got a clip of that Wes Unseld-esque full-court pass to Lebron for a dunk?

When he started handling the ball. Because literally he’s handling the ball up the floor and at the 3 point line in some sets. He’s much better at facing up and passing than back to basket and passing out traps

Sabonis was Jokic prototype, this is Anthony Pau Davis

We joke and of course his passing has improved individually, but stuff like this has made me realize people really overrate centers getting assists. All it took was a scheme change where players actually cut into open space. Jokic is an all-time passer, but his team is also constantly moving. Contrast that with the crusty old iso possessions in Frank's system and AD having literally no outlet from double teams.

^ But it has to also be said that Ham's 5 out offense that got plenty of criticism (not from you levon but generally speaking) is the key to unlocking this. It just took some time for the offense to get built with more plays being set and players better learning their reads

100%, which is my point. Assists are such a function of schemes and far too often we over-attribute them to the qualities of the player. You obviously need a calibre of player that can demand attention to get his teammates open and one capable of making the shot-pass decision and read, but still. I guess I knew this all along for perimeter players but it took seeing AD, whom I didn't consider a very good playmaker, become one in the 5-out system to re-learn the lesson for bigs.

The sad part of this is I don't think AD will be DPOY consideration because the Lakers record won't be good enough

He needs some journalists to write articles about his defense like JJJ had for him last season.

I think Gobert will get the DPotY this year despite being worse than AD in every category defensively. The narrative around him has been there, as is the team success like you say.

I though the advanced stats have Gobert as the runaway best defensive player in the league? He's been good the last two games but I thought AD was actually pretty bad for most of January defensively, at least by his standards. It's not just that he had to cover for DLO/AR/TP because players were going at him and he wouldn't get a good contest. I think it was probably injuries more than anything else but still.

The JJJ selection was an abomination any way you slice it. At least give it to Bam FFS.

It was like giving the MVP to a volume chucker. JJJ is just a volume shotblocker on low efficiency (high foul trouble) and nothing else.

I have no idea how they match up with the advanced metrics or where those are to look at, but in the traditional ones AD has him in Drebounds/blocks/steals which is what I assumed most of the people who vote go by

AD having DLo hold the Championship.

AD: See how that M*er feels. So when we (win a championship).

Seems like AD wants them all to win the chip together.

In all honesty, I think with a healthy Bron last year we would have.
