Gobert having 4 DPOY trophies is one of the greatest NBA travesties.
Monster game by AD, loved the fire. |

What Gobert is to AD, was like what Nash was to Kobe |

This game added a minute to AD'S career highlight reel. You had everything here. Swatting shots, making passes, nailing jumpers, offensive rebounds and dunks. Yelling in antmans face after an and 1. Noice |

Would be incredible if he won DPOY at 32. Seems like he was robbed a few years. Last season they would have won 10 games without him in the middle. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

If AD and Lebron were fully healthy for the playoffs, then anything short of a championship would be an underachievement. Vogel, who's viewed as an average HC since nobody's hiring him, did it. JJ should be able to do the same if JJ is considered above average. _________________ Lakers used to average one championship every four years under Dr. Buss but I'd gladly take one every ten years now. |

For AD to be a true contender for DPOY this team needs to a top 8-ish defensive team (very hard to do with the other 4 starters) _________________ "He's a Zen master, so he can speak to you, and he doesn't need a microphone; you can hear him in your head, 'Ron, don't shoot, don't shoot.' Whatever, pow, three. I love the Zen, though." |

I would tend to agree, but the voters don't seem to care about team defensive rankings too much. Wenbanyama finished 2nd last year while the Spurs were 22nd in DRtg |

The media cares about the narrative. If you make them talk about you, you get the votes. If the Lakers are a top team in the league (Top 5) and make noise that AD should be defensive player of the year that it becomes a talking point on ESPN, then that will be what matters the most in giving it traction.
They don't care about real statistics nowadays over narratives. Kendrick freaking Perkins implying Jokic gets MVP despite not being a high scorer because he's white caused them to pivot 180 and give it to Embiid instead when statistically Jokic was better than him in all the advanced stats.
So yeah they value narrative over numbers. If the Lakers are a Top 5 team and make enough noise that AD should be defensive player of the year, it will be come a conversation and narrative. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Greg Anthony said on NBA TV tonight "I don't care what anyone says, Anthony Davis is the best defensive player in the league and it's not close." |

It's true lol. The voting process sucks, and the criteria needs to change. The analysts are just a bunch of casuals who don't understand how terrible the Lakers would be without AD. They win 10 games without him last season.
The funny thing is Minny still wins 50 without Gobert. You take him out in some instances, and they are actually better, although I won't deny that he's one of the best defensive floor raisers in the game. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

LeBron takes a back seat will do wonders for AD, and we are seeing it the first 2 games. Offense no longer runs thru LeBron iso, ball movement has been beautiful, and the chemistry between AD and Reeves is amazing. Elephant in the room is how long will a healthy AD last? |

Health is my main concern. He's doing a lot of lateral things and hitting the ground hard. I feel like two way superstar bigs like Giannis and Embiid get injured more often |

Giannis is pretty durable though. Not counting the two shortened seasons (Covid and the season after) he's averaged 73 games in 9 seasons. Even during those shortened seasons, he played in 124 out of 145 games. Dude isn't AC Green but he's probably one of the most durable superstars by today's standards. _________________ KOBE |

He's almost always injured by the time the playoffs roll around. |

Props to AD to start the season. Clearly he is sick and tired of the street clothes and DPOY disrespect.
3/3 on the year. He won’t sustain that but just be this AD for 85% of season. |

AD being the best Defensive Player in the league whom also puts up 26-30 points a game shows how bunk the "But he needs to rest on defense to save himself for offense.." argument analysts have been giving players for the past decade is. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:
