Just wondering if AR playing for the USA and the attention he got made other players in the team think 🤔 if I’m a Laker I would be a rock star also 🙂. Silent recruitment…

Most of those guys think that they're already rock stars. Seriously, though, I expect that every player in the league, every player in college or high school, and every high-level international player knows that playing for the Lakers generates an enormous amount of attention.
I discount the recruiting angle because none of those players are coming to the Lakers at a discount. Which of those players would you want for a max slot? Tatum? Okay. Edwards? Okay. Banchero? Maybe. As for the other guys, there are several we would love to have, but they'd be a little disappointing as the second star on a roster with two max contracts. Others may disagree with this assessment, and that's cool. I think that a lot of us would be disappointed if our next max player was someone like Ingram, Haliburton, or Bridges. _________________ Internet Argument Resolved

I was hoping AR would do some low-key recruiting or LeTampering, but supermax has changed the landscape of the NBA, and locale is somewhat irrelevant now. Dudes will stay in Toronto if it means 40-60 million a year for them. It goes without saying the free agency landscape is not what it was 10-12 years ago. Sure, we'll attract the Christian Woods and Gabe Vincents of the league, but don't expect the tier 1 or 2 free agents to come here without significant $$$$$$.
People actually thought Bruce Brown was going to play here for peanuts a few months ago. Then Indiana swooped in and gave him 2 yrs/ 45 million. The market value of players is inflated to the nth degree today. There are only 3-4 players in the entire league worth the supermax at the moment (Giannis, Luka, Jokic, Embiid). I'd be hesitant to give it to anyone else, but that doesn't matter to executives who need to hold on to their stars. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.

Value is ephemeral. Luka (IMO) is just a stats guy and is not transcendent. Ditto Embiid. They can make the jump, but "The Guys Who Make Everyone Else Better" list is pretty much Joker, Giannis, Steph & LeBron . . . and with LeBron's foot status uncertain, he's hanging by a thread. If he cannot bully his way to the rim anymore and is a perimeter player, he's not making dudes better, either. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".

For players that are still "proving themselves" (like all the players mentioned), getting stat and generational "cheddar" is their Only Priority and its understandable
On the other hand, if Dame had to give up $10+M (what is that to somebody who has already been paid $40+M per year multiple times) to play on a championship because of either CAP restrictions, retaining players and/or obtaining targeted players - Dame would do that.
Supposedly Harden has already done that, like other prominent players have
If Embiid is unable to get a ring with a legitimate chance to being a NBA Champion, he would leave - just like KG did with the TWolves.
One can definitely get paid in a small market because one has the financ9al means to travel anywhere. Winning a ring with the Lakers in LaLa Land Glitz or the first ring at MSG on a Knick Team or as a member of the hated Boston Celtics with its tradition - it is just a whole different world where one can be in the Center of the NBA Universe - Oh What a Feeling
Nuggets are NBA Champions but where is the buzz or excitement, basketball pundits have the Suns with a better chance to win a ring than the Nuggets
Win a Ring in LaLaLand of Glitz and Glamour, especially if we can beat the Celtics (in they make it) in The Finals, one is part of a long tradition that will be talked about for decades and subjects for countless documentaries. Will that happen with the Nuggets - nope (sadly)
Balmer has spent a great deal of his Microsoft Profits into his new $2+B arena in trying to change the image of the Clippers. Even with two superstars, well-constructed roster and a very rich owner - buzz is about the Lakers, even during a rare calm off-season. Who wins the battle between AD/LBJ vs Kwahi/PG13, no brainer answer. AD/LBJ, despite all their injury woes, have extended great effort to be on the court (Mamba Mentality). Kwahi/PG13 (great players when they are actually on the court) as usually MIA - though they are available to collect their paychecks and be at Balmer's Arena Grand Opening.
AR is a star because he is a LAKER - deservedly so!
Matt Ryan will always be remembered because of his last minute game-winning shot as a LAKER
Westbrook, like many other star players, didn't adapt or embrace all the pressures/scrutiny that comes with being a LAKER.
~ Laker fan will not tolerate a player that says that fans should accept his terrible shooting percentage as "who he is."

That's the point. If you are the Bostons GM, you aren't thinking, "Is Jaylen Brown worth as much as Luke and Giannis? Is he 'worth' the supermax from a philosophical standing?"
You are thinking, "If I don't resign Jaylen Brown, I am screwed and won't be able to find anyone else near as good, so I'd better give him the supermax."
The average GM lasts in his job 30 months. Most of them aren't in a position to worry about the long term, because they are too worried about being fired in the short term.
If he said yes to Germany, he could have been a world champion and already a legend. Wonder if Team USA will call him up for the Olympics if star players will want to play _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

Dame cannot do that. You cannot negotiate an existing contract down in the NBA. He'd have to agree to void his deal and likely take an exception, if not the minimum. _________________ On Lakersground, a concern troll is someone who is a fan of another team, but pretends to be a Lakers fan with "concerns".
