Bill can’t pronounce zealot.
Congrats NPZ for getting a shot out on one of the biggest podcasts around.
18 - 19 minutes in to the most recent BS Report podcast where they talk about the NBA’s top 75.

His collection is amazing, and I also love all the various Chick Hearn recordings as well. Glad to see the work recognized on a national level. |

Hi, folks. I actually heard about that the day of by a chum who listens to his podcasts. I’m surprised there are people who get 19 mins deep into a podcast, but that’s me. My Magic vid was mentioned on PTI by Wilbon and Adande has mentioned it. JA said he watched it every few months. It’s nice to know that some of these folks are still fan enough to check out olden daze footage. BSPN used the Earv vid in that 100 goat players feature recently. I’ve gotten various other tidbits, but I’m half surprised at that kinda thing and half meh because I did/do that stuff as a creative and sharing outlet. Wish all that work was worth a million bucks, but the NBA owns the goods. The Hulu dude offered me 200 a day fer compiling footage fer their upcoming thing, but ugh, man. I’m a jaded vet, no longer Charlie Hustle. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

I'm providing stuff to the Hulu folks for the upcoming Lakers docu. I talked to the producer who was pulling up to Steve Springer's house at the time. Made an offer I couldn't refuse. The early 80s stuff is tough. I didn't even SEE a VCR til 84 (first movie ever watched on a VCR was Danielsan 1) and my fam didn't plunk down hundreds for one til 86. In 81 a VCR cost a grand in 81 dollars and good 8 hr tapes were upwards of 12 bucks a pop. Expensive hobby, thus and so, tapers were few and far til the late 80s. I remember an anecdote from my mom that she had a coworker around 80-82ish who had a VCR and was trying to explain the concept to her, but it was so mindnumbing a notion of being able to watch something not live on TV and the concept of "rewinding" that she couldn't immediately "get it", kinda like TiVo w/ pausing live TV. Fotomats were one of the very first to start a rental service, but I remember vid stores popping up like Starbucks around 85. We rented decks til we bought one. Any rate, I'm in. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

Thanks. Their offer is "grand". Wink. That thing should be very interesting. They seem to want to get into minutiae that isn't in standard Laker docs (such as the 30/30 one). We've all seen the Laker/Celtic thing over and over, but there was no doubt a lot of spice going on in the locker room and Forum Club and FO. Producer told me that they were limited to showing only 20% of actual game footage, so they're looking for bits of interest like interviews/etc that don't include game footage, especially early 80s. I'm sure they got others providing footage a la 30/30, but from what I've heard, this one is gonna be thorough enough to focus most or all big names at least some. The 81 to 82 seasons are both controversial and black-n-white disappointing and overjoying, which sucks for documentary makers. That period is rough. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL

You didn't like page 2? Bill Simmons the writer is vastly more palatable than Bill Simmons the podcaster/talking head. |

I never really partook. Kobe coverage in the 2000s turned me off of sportswriters forever. I remember reading a Simmons piece and liking his style right before the 2010 playoffs, and then he went full brain damage re: Kobe's Game 7 shooting performance vs. Boston and would not let go of it. Dead to me ever since. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Being there in 2010 woulda been the first time he was present at a Finals in LA that Boston lost. Even with our fans, it had to have been a new and conspicuous feeling. Can't know what it feels like until it's happening to you. And we're not talking the Mad Max villains version of Staples fans a la 08 road game showing.
Only a Fidlam Ben would go after 6/24 in FIN G7. I think it was a much more solid game given the circumstances and exactly had to do on a bad shooting night. His legs were dragging badly by the 100th some-odd game, you could see his feet almost scrape the floor at points, a wet knee since Rd 1, mileage, etc. We saw a Kobe who was firmly painted into a corner in a game of that mag. Any other time, no one backs Baby into a corner. That was a rare sight, a situation where he absolutely needed to do ANYthing he could...otherwise. In that respect, he availed himself. And added to that, Lakers won on rebounding from him and all the front line, even Drew. No rebounds, no rings even MOAR discernible than they were in the era of the coach who first said it. Ughly ass game, rebounds leading to more FGAs. Kobe's 15 rebounds? Dat's a wound! _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL
