Just a general thought for you, Mike, as I reassess where I went wrong on Morant is how much creativity can be an indicator of star potential. There's something to being able to "just make sh!t up" in basketball and Morant demonstrates how valuable creativity/improvisation can be to stardom in the league. _________________ Under New Management

I ranked him down because I think he'll be injury prone.
But improvisation is a very, very big deal in player evaluation and it takes and outrageously high skill set to create a high level of improvisation that leads to great outcomes.
No one saw this. Everyone should be hiring that guy's father for training. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

A: One of the main reasons Moody fell from, say, #9 to #14 is because a couple of 23-year-old guards (who are both having solid seasons) were drafted ahead of him. Long-term I think I'd rather have Haliburton and Moody instead of Mitchell and Sabonis, but what do I know? _________________ Under New Management

Soooo...Jabari Smith is #1, right?
None of the big three look like future primary options though Banchero has a narrow window to get there. I've got Smith at #3 now because his creator upside seems low for what I look for in a top overall pick and his perimeter defense is less impactful than what Holmgren can bring as a weakside rim protector.
My boring early top ten in what looks like a boring draft:

And the leap between year two and this season has also been so impressive and kind of surprising - he packed two seasons of development into one off-season.
What if prime Derrick Rose was also a great passer? Hopefully Ja can avoid Rose's injury history and his jumper continues to progress so he can have a longer star career than the athletic freak PGs who came before him. _________________ Under New Management

He was. He was just too athletic to use that trait. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I had Moody as high as #5, but I don't know what part of Lakers twitter you peruse. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Not related to you. Just a few normally thoughtful Lakers fans prominent on social media who don't follow the draft closely but still have strong opinions about drafting. _________________ Under New Management

Not a primary creator to be seen in this class. Crazy.
I like how Johnny Davis runs a PnR; Banchero's passing is legit; Holmgren and Ivey could level up as HC creators; but one of Jean Montero or Kennedy Chandler need to become that guy otherwise this is a draft bereft of a true #1 option. _________________ Under New Management

Ah that section. I've likely come across them, and left their group chat.
But I definitely still ignore certain parts of Lakers draft twitter. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I think there's at least 2 #1 option types; and 3 typical #1 picks in this draft.
But right now, I'm Banchero, Jabari, Holmgren in that order, and it's a tie for Holgren and Jabari for me. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
How is Chet a top 3 pick? His offensive game is not advanced enough for a top talent and anyone with strength abuses him. _________________ Sell the team Jeanie!

Oh, you watched the tourney and not the entire season.
Correct - which is why im asking the question. I trust your opinion Mike and am legit wondering.
Okay. If he was 20lbs heavier at his age, he looked like Jokic out of Mega Basket.
Unfortunately he is not 20 lbs heavier.
Then choose someone else. Some teams will actually wait for the weight gain like Jokic for Denver and Gasol for Memphis, and it'll pay dividends.
The idea of having an NBA ready body at 19 doesn't make sense anyway.
But hell, even Evan Mobley was roughly the same weight as Cade Cunningham. He's probably an All NBA Defensive 3rd teamer right now.
But it goes to the heart of why I didn't want to answer the question you asked. Even when I tell you the answer, you don't like it, but still can't "see" why he's a Top 3 and arguable #1. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

There's another guy on UNC I like a ton, that'll likely be 2nd round to undrafted, but I need more footage before I write about him on my Substack. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
