Enough is enough. Even with a championship roster, the top brass cannot keep it together due to poor decision making and luxury tax issues. It was a good run but until we get some aligned basketball minds from top to bottom, this team is not going to magically fix itself.

Post James era we are going to be in a world of hurt if this continues. What will it take for the league to step in?

If the league didn't step in with the Knicks/Dolan situation... why would they ever step in on the Lakers?

No law against being a dumb owner.

Yes, but I don't know why this is a topic. It has already been a topic so many times, been talked about so many times, and the buss's are not selling.

Asking what it'd take for the league to step in, doesn't give me any hope that you look at things rationally.

You want Silver to force a sale of the Lakers because they aren’t winning?

the only way the NBA can force an owner to sell a team is if they determine the owner has broken his contractual obligations, and 3/4 of the other owners agree to vote them out.

I loved what Caruso brought to the game too. It was a mistake to not re-sign this “role player”. But this constant overhype for his role is getting ridiculous.

The Lakers relied on the Big Three model. One of them is considered the GOAT, another Mr. Triple Double MVP, the last a Unicorn.

Then surrounding them with aging vet players to “ win now”. Exactly what the team leaders wanted.

But the Lakers underachieving and abysmal season is based on the decision to not re-sign Alex Caruso?

The Lakers defense sucks this year. Caruso led by example on defense every minute he was on the floor. We now have Reaves showing what solid effort and defense is like but he's still a rookie, and worse yet he's going solo on defense way too often. It starts with someone who sets the tone, and AC did that by being vocal and scrapping for every possession, AND having teammates willing to buy in to the concept of unselfish basketball.

We don't have that now. We cheaped out while going all in for a "Big 3" third superstar who pretty much killed our cap space and wrecked our team with his selfish brand of basketball and his standing around while Reaves tries to guard two players at once. No leader on defense. No lead is safe.

So yeah, being too cheap to keep AC was dumb. He didn't do it alone, but looking at the bigger picture I don't think people complaining about dumping AC are overstating anything.

The Buss family owns the Lakers, not just Jeannie, however I will be surprised if they sell. I am curious how much influence she still has on keeping the status quo. Has she alienated her siblings/other ownership enough to reach a tipping point on her stepping down so we can hire professionals to find top tier GM's and key FO people?

Jeannie's 'Laker family and friends' network constitutes an intellectual disadvantage to other teams. She's no Doc Buss. No closer than Jim was in fact.

The notion that the Lakers are "cheap" is a little silly.

They constantly have one of the higher payrolls in the league.

That said, it's clear they have certain spending budgets and profit goals. If that bothers fans, such is life. It's been that way for a long time, and it's not going to change.

Yes Carusos one of the best guard defenders in the league.

At one point he was leading the league in steals and Chicago was top 5 in defense. He likely wouldve been all-defense this season if he didnt get injured by that douche Duke player.

The Buss Family trust owns 2/3rds of the team, so what the minority owners think is irrelevant.

As far as the Buss family, I doubt anyone outside the family really knows its dynamics and allegiances. I suspect the family doesn't feel as alienated as fans do. Two of her siblings are involved in running the team. They've been through up and downs, and heard demands that the family sell through most of their lives. Some of the other Buss kids might only care that their profit check remains constant.

One third minority interest plus only one third of the majority interest is still a majority. That said, my own hunch is the same, just wishing I were wrong.

I don't believe it works that way. The Buss family trust owns 66% of the team, and has to make decisions as a unit. It's not a case where two of the Buss kids can combine their 22% interest with outside owners to make decisions, because technically they don't own the team as individuals -- they own part of the Trust, which owns the teams.

That's right.

The Buss family are team rich and cash poor.

Meaning the bulk of their wealth is in the Lakers. The Buss family does not have the liquidity meaning cash. It's not easy for them to simply cut a $50M check for luxury taxes.
