Or choosing people based on skills instead of other factors

I wish more people thought like you.

Or maybe he is just getting the people he is comfortable with, he knows that are good, and fit what he is doing.

You mean what Luke Walton did too?

I wasn't criticising when I made that comment. Just wanted to point out a possible explanation of why he chose those people as his assistant coaches.

looks like he has an understanding of what we need and hired coaches with a specific focus.

I wouldn't go that far. It is difficult to tell what attributes those assistant coaches were hired for because we don't know much about them. When Luke Walton chose his assistant coaches, we didn't know why they were hired in the first place too.

The only thing I am certain with is when we underachieve, there won't be a big name assistant coach who can threaten his job.

You're assuming the team will under achieve.

ESPN Sources: The Oklahoma City Thunder are hiring Chip Engelland as an assistant coach. Engelland, considered the NBA's preeminent shooting coach, spent 17 years with the Spurs where he's considered to have had an immense impact on Kawhi Leonard and Tony Parker, among others.

Dang he might have been interesting.
Has he fixed anyone's jumpers these days?

What about Metta then? And he's a Laker champion!

Ron speaks on a different level though. Players may be like "come again Ron?". Haha!

I do like rondo as an assistant. There is the issue of the legal stuff earlier this year, but he would be a valuable coaching asset. Not to mention lebron would listen to him.

But as others have said... If there's the thought that darvin doesn't want assistants who might be jockeying for his job... Well Rajon would probably be looking for that opportunity.

Damn, no Sheed = no mentor for AD to teach toughness and attitude.

Imagine a supposed superstar needing to be taught those things.

I would hope AD has that in him already and just needs to somehow get healthy and stay healthy... unicorn territory.
