The other thing is, we talked about him developing as an initiator for the offense because we’re down a ball handler right now. We probably had 10 to 12 possessions where he had to bring it up, including some possessions late game. There were two close calls, but he didn’t have any turnovers on those plays. I thought that was big again for him and his development, just getting him into these situations, I think is huge.”
It’s was painful to watch but I love that JJ understands that Max needs reps in uncomfortable situations in order to ultimately reach his potential.
I think we've only lost to the Cavs ever since he was inserted into the starting lineup, right?
KCP replacement!!
I actually think Max's potential upside is even higher than KCP's as he has better scoring instincts/versatility than KCP who literally could only shoot threes and utilize straight line drives to the basket. That said, KCP does have more quick twitch to his game which is ideal for the type of defense that both these guys excel at. I do see Max Christie's upside as Eddie Jones. I can really see it although he still has work to get there. Eddie was ready almost from the jump.

My hope for him was to have these types of possessions in preseason to help his development because I think that is next level for him. I think he did well yesterday and hope he gets to do more of that going forward
That assist to LeBron in traffic was dicey and in general I have zero faith in Christie bringing the ball up, but as teams hide their worst defenders on him, he's going to have to start getting comfortable. I imagine at some point teams are going to blitz him when he takes the ball up court and he'll have some ugly turnovers. Patience LG, when that happens lol

Gonna need more reps in that situation. LeBron seemed to give him a chance to work on it last night
I do wish that Max had KCPs explosiveness when it comes to his dunks. But he's still growing and hasn't gotten his man strength yet in the slightest. But becoming stronger is going to become a consistent next step for Christie.
Maybe he should reach out to Tim Grover, as many professional basketball players should. _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

Yeah I’m guessing this will be the focus of his offseason work.
I think Max can be a much more balanced offensive player than KCP. Again I really love Derrick White as a ceiling for Max. I don't think he ever gets there, but even 85% of Derrick White is a super valuable player
Really like how far he has come, and how our staff has helped him. Really like how JJ has seen his potential and has been trying to incorporate him more, and grow his game. He started out slowly and he did not give up on him, and more importantly cormaxwell didn't give up on himself.
You can tell he is made of different stuff when he is nailing free throws down the stretch. He is still only 21 years old. 21 years old and he is covering every position, and making seamless switches. Making the right cuts off of the ball, and making plays on the ball.
Just really nice what our son has grown into. Really thankful that so many here stayed with him. Pat yourselves on the back everybody.
His game will go up and down but this stretch shows what he's capable of. Just a couple of weeks back there was a discussion here of whether he's an NBA player - ridiculous, he definitely belongs in the NBA, it's just that it remains to be proven whether he's a starter or a role player, that's all.
it's funny how adamant that guy was and almost seems mad that Christie is actually good
JamaalWilkes, good player, terrible poster
When called out on it Mr Wilkes said it was based on eye test and Max’s rookie year g league stats lol
If you are referring to me, I do not think Max Christie is the player you do.
In three years, his career average is less than 5 points, less than 1 assist and 2 rebounds a game. That is hardly special in the NBA.
This year, in what you are apparently celebrating as his breakout season, he is only averaging 7 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist in 22 minutes, while getting paid $8 million per year.
Nothing about that is remarkable and would be a total nothing burger if he played for another team. Freaking Scottie Pippen Jr. is averaging 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists in the same 22 minutes.
I understand why some Lakers fans might be overly exuberant for Max, Bronny, Shake Milton, etc. because these players are currently wearing the purple and gold, but in reality, their perceived value is seriously inflated because they play for the home team. Other teams are not sweating Max, (or Bronny, Milton, Jaxson Hayes, etc.).

Finally get some legitimate defensive potential happening again along our perimeter and fans complaining about the stats of a 21 y/o who is just barely getting his first chance at decent minutes and has gotten better by the Week. Nobody knows what he'll end up as but the potential and defensive energy he has shown thus far clearly deserves some love for the work he has put in and if it continues I see no reason to be excited about his future. It's been refreshing seeing the perimeter guys actually playing with an above average defensive iq.
