Yeah that's how I see it. Coming into the season, and based off the SPL last summer, I assumed he probably wouldn't get anything other than maybe some garbage time minutes late in the year. And was a bit worried that he would be a free agent before he could finish developing.

He played a lot more than that, and he showed a lot of progress. But he's also a young second round pick. He'd be deep on the bench right now, the Lakers have a lot better depth than they did a month ago. They may as well get him as some minutes in the G-League.

I love young Max.

As he gets stronger, his role will get bigger. He'll be able to stick with a ton of 3's and smother most 2's.

Hope he's with us for a long time... but he's going to be a valuable chip next year, imo.

Do you really believe that or are you just trying to provoke responses? If you really believe it, ok, but damn you're wrong. If you're just stirring up the nest, have at it.

A g-leaguer doesn't shoot 41% from 3 as a 19year old.

He currently is a G League level player, hopefully he will progress as he matures.

I would have ignored the poster's post if it had included your term "currently" because I agree.

But, unless I read more into it than it looked, the implication is Max's only options will be as a g-leaguer or he'll be playing over seas, not he NBA.

Yeah of course max is a g league player right now especially with our roster.

That same poster posted previously that Christie was a g league talent at best and said cited eye tests and Christie’s garbage time stats at the beginning of the year.

MaxC is active on defense and shooting 42% from 3pt. I think his assignment to the G-League is mostly due to the abundance of players on the roster that have his size and can play his most effective position at SG; Beasley, Reaves, LWIV, Reed...even TBjr and Dlo may get minutes at SG.

It could be more beneficial to the Lakers to give LWIV and Reed, who both look to be gone next season, any garbage minutes available instead of MaxC so that they can be evaluated as possibly part of the future roster...both are unlikely to be brought back but they have displayed skill sets that could change that.

Without even available garbage minutes for MaxC it is a good decision to let him get experience in the G-League...remember....MaxC actually started a game for the Lakers this year so I don't think his skill set is the reason for the G-League assignment.

Against the Skyforce on Monday, Christie came off-the-bench for South Bay and scored 16 points on 6-14 shooting, 2-3 from three-point range, and two rebounds.

Yep, LW4 is nearly tanking our games with his selfish play.

I also hope if Beasley stinks it up again, Ham pulls him out and brings in Max Christie. I’m impressed with his defense and his shooting is looking a lot more confident.

Even the Lakers assigned him to the G-League South Bay Lakers. It’s not an insult, he may eventually become a legit NBA player or play overseas.

The Lakers recalled him from G-League, but he sat on the bench with a DNP tonight. Most solid NBA players don’t get DNP’s at the end of a bench.

I don’t get why you are offended if other fans or the Lakers think he needs to be in G-League at this point to develop. I guess you’re really into him.

Just speaking for myself, the "...or play overseas" bit seems premature, for a promising looking rookie in Christie. It seems less like objectively stating a possibility, and more like needling. Max getting DNP's is more about him being a rookie, and less about whether he's talented enough to play in the NBA at some point.

I think he will take a lot of Troy Brown minutes next season. I would actually play him this season as we are missing some wing defense and 3 point shooting. Like last night, with Troy/Malik chucking and missing, play him.

He’ll probably replace one of Beasley or TBJ next year, yeah

Don’t know which one, though. Beasley provides the more unique skill, but getting rid of him probably gets us out of repeater tax territory (should be relatively easy to get TBJ on a cost-controlled deal)
