Great job by Kersh at Great American Smallpark

Getting out of that 6th inning jam with 2 on and no outs and the heart of the order up, after starting 2-0 to De La Cruz, was clutch.

Spencer Strider got rocked tonight by the Mets:

Quote:
4ip
8 ER
3.79 ERA

Yeah, this is the dude I'm most worried about in the playoffs, so good to see he's not unhittable.

Looks like all 3 of their outstanding rookies from last year (Strider, Harris, Grissom) are either struggling this year or having a down year from last year.

Quote:
Michael Harris:

.180 avg
.264 obp
.289 slg
.553 ops

Quote:
Vaughn Grissom:

19 games
.277 avg
.314 obp
.308 slg
.622 ops
-0.8 WAR

His D must be god awful to have a -0.8 WAR with those numbers. They sent him back down to the minors. He was supposed to take over SS for Swanson but so far, that's not happening. They're lucky to have Arcia.

I wouldn't be too concerned about Strider if I were a Braves fan. The velocity and stuff and strikeout numbers are all there. Just had a bad outing. His ERA was under 3 before today, right? He'll be fine. The others though, yeah, very surprising, especially Harris.

He was very consistent last year:

Quote:
2022:

April: 2.84 ERA
May: 2.81 ERA
June: 3.24 ERA
July: 2.70 ERA
Aug: 2.73 ERA
Sep: 1.80 ERA

So far this year, he's been different. He started off dominating, but has tailed off since, similar to Urias:

Quote:
2023:

April: 1.80 ERA
May: 4.01 ERA
June: 9.00 ERA
July:
Aug:
Sep:

Here's a comparison with his first 5 starts vs. his last 8 starts:

Quote:
First 5 starts:

30ip
6ip / start
49 K
14.7 K / 9ip
11 BB
6 ER
1.80 ERA

Last 8 starts:

43.2ip
5.1ip / start
72 K
14.9 K / 9ip
17 BB
25 ER
5.16 ERA

And even taking out his last start, here are his numbers for the previous 7 starts:

Quote:
Previous 7 starts:

39.2ip
5.2ip / start
64 K
14.5 K / 9ip
15 BB
17 ER
3.87 ERA

If I was a Braves fan, I'd at least pay some attention to his current downward trend. Yes, he's still striking batters out at a high rate. But, it seems he's more hittable now. Let's see how his season turns out.

At the very least, looks like he's only a 5ip pitcher right now, so that's not as scary. He might strike out alot, but he doesn't go long. Seems like he's a better version of Blake Snell at the moment. High K rate, but max is 6ip.

Yeah, the Braves worry me the most in the playoffs because they are so talented. But, looking at Strider's recent struggles, it does give me more hope should we face them in the playoffs. But that's a long ways away and we have our own issues to fix as well.

Yup!!

I mentioned this. Our AA rotation is killing it. Alot of them might crack the next top 100 list:

Quote:
Sheehan - 1.64 ERA
Frasso - 1.69 ERA
Knack - 2.17 ERA
River Ryan - 3.05 ERA
Kyle Hurt - 3.62 ERA
Nastrini - 4.03 ERA

Nastrini and Kyle Hurt fell off a bit.

They mentioned in the video that these guys might be used as trade bait. I really hope not. We'd be selling low, not high.

They're on the verge of becoming top 100 prospects, so trading them before they get top 100 status would be selling them at 50 cents on the dollar.

I'd trade the current top 100 prospects that we already have and wait for this next wave to make the top 100 next year to increase their trade value. Plus, we get to see which ones we want to keep. I wouldn't trade any of these guys.

For instance, a team might ask for 2 of these guys in lieu of one current top 100 prospect (like a Michael Busch).

The most interesting part of the video is when it shows you how we acquired all of these players:

Quote:
1) Landon Knack: drafted 2020 2nd rd

2) Nick Nastrini: drafted 2021 4th rd

3) Emmet Sheehan: drafted 2021 6th rd

4) Kyle Hurt: acquired from the Marlins for Dylan Floro (2021)

5) River Ryan: acquired from the Padres for Matt Beaty (2022)

6) Nick Frasso: acquired from the Blue Jays for Mitch White (2022)

Initial Chris Sale update from the Red Sox:

Imaging indicated a stress reaction in his scapula (shoulder blade) bone.
It's not a surgical case but requires rest and rehab.
They will reevaluate in 3-4 weeks and determine next steps from there.

Yep 60 day IL for Sale

Pitchers are falling over left and right this year. They honestly need to let them use sticky stuff again.

Yeah, no sticky stuff and the pitch clock seems like too much strain on them.

Grove replaced by Vesia… here we go with a BP blowout

Our starting pitchers other than Kersh can’t go more than 5 innings

Yup, the worst pitching we've had during this run.

At least we can say there aren't many regrets as alot of the free agent pitchers suck this year (or injured):

- Verlander
- Tyler Anderson
- Carlos Rodon
- Jacob deGrom

I don't know if this is still true, but I was shocked to find out last week that the Rays' starters have actually averaged the least innings per start in MLB. We can't be too far behind.

Shocking. Their ERA must be great compared to ours.

Nice.

Time to do to Philadelphia what Cincinnati did to us.

I'm a bit tired of Muncy's .198 avg.

Starting to look similar to his .196 avg last yr. Only difference is the HRs are up this year.

Muncy's batting avg in the last 4 years:

Quote:
2020 - .192
2021 - .249
2022 - .196
2023 - .198

Can we somehow win this game?

I don't trust our ability to win tight ballgames because:

Quote:
1) Our BP is so shaky and
2) Our hitting isn't clutch late

Yup, Ferguson lost another game for us. Thanks Ferguson. I remember last yr, dude was (bleep) and moaning about being sent down to AAA. What now Ferguson?

3.68 ERA now.
