Miller
Pepiot
Kershaw / sheehan
Lynn / Sheehan (If Kershaw goes 6+ innings) |
Lynn just gave up a 3 run bomb
5-3 Dodgers |
All started with 2 outs and nobody on, has Cabrera 0-2, and throws a hittable fastball right on the outside corner. Just doing the hitter a favor. As the Dodgers are so wont to do. |
I spoke too soon. LOL |

JD Martinez has 91 RBI in 101 games. Butter and egg man, ladies and gents! If we don't get Ohtani, he's someone I really want to keep. |

Four perfect innings by the bullpen to finish it off. Kelly's fastball was 99-101 in the 9th inning. Stuff looks wicked. When he gets ahead and has any semblance of command, he can look unhittable. |

Yeah, that's going to be in the NLCS or WS. Have no choice basically. |

I'm not familiar with this saying at all. Never heard anyone use it until you started using it. What's it mean bro?
I looked it up, I found this:
Quote: | What does the phrase Big Butter and Egg Man mean?
naive prosperous businessman
slang. : a free spender or wealthy investor : a naive prosperous businessman. |
Quote: | Big Butter and Egg Man
The song name was a 1920s slang term for a big spender, a traveling businessman in the habit of spending large amounts of money in nightclubs. |
Quote: | butter-and-egg man
old-fashioned slang
a prosperous businessman from a small town or a farmer who spends his money ostentatiously on visits to a big city |
Quote: | The phrase "big butter and egg man" is a reference to a song from the 1920s. The song was written by Louis Armstrong and Jack Teagarden and was a popular jazz tune of the time.
The phrase is used in the song to describe a wealthy person who spends a lot of money on frivolous things, specifically butter and eggs.
In modern usage, the term is also used to describe someone who is wealthy or well-off. |

I heard it referenced before. Its the guy who delivers consistently...aka the guy you want up in a big at-bat. I specifically remember it being referenced to Eric Karros in 1995/1996 and Paul O'Neill on the Yankees. |

Vin Scully used to say it! Basically, a proven RBI guy he would call a "butter and egg man." I never heard him say why, but I assumed it was because, in the old days, "they delivered", yep. |

It's always great to keep Vin's phrases alive, similar to Chick. I even found this nugget with a Google search, and it's very much worth a quick read! "Butter and egg man" is in there, as are so many others that I fondly remember when watching Dodger games with Vin on the call. I like it when Joe Davis will occasionally use one of these phrases and cites Vin, particularly "deuces wild."

Great numbers. I remember in the 2018 World Series though, he wasnt the guy I was really worried about. Numbers good or not, I dont remember his at-bats being really all that dangerous.....same goes with 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts. Bogaerts I remember being really bad as in I remember thinking he is the one I want Boston hitting in a big moment because he will be an automatic out despite his good regular season numbers. Devers wasnt that good either. Benintendi worried me and of course the big killer Steve Pearce who wasnt just fluke that series - the dude was putting up dangerous at bats whenever he came up. Jackie Bradley Jr was the one who I would consider a fluke. A bad hitter who we made look good in moments because he caught the mistakes. |

We will need to hit like crazy in the playoffs to have a shot with these pitchers. Thankfully, Muncy, Taylor and a few others are finding their stride. |

Very high praise for Patrick Bailey, SF's rookie catcher (from Jeff Passan, ESPN article):
Quote: | Player Scouts Can't Stop Talking About
Around the All-Star break, a scout asked a very interesting question: "Is Patrick Bailey redefining catching?"
The scout explained that the catching position might be the least receptive to evolution of all -- that something as simple as going to one knee to catch was frowned upon for so long that it took either a headstrong catcher or a keen instructor to allow it. To see Bailey doing what he's doing for the Giants as a rookie, then, boggled the scout's mind, because Bailey is the furthest thing from a cookie cutter -- and he's already the best defensive player in baseball.
Bailey does everything exceptionally well. He calls such a good game that veteran pitchers throw whatever he says. He frames with the expertise of someone who works at Michael's. The throwing, though. That's what really distinguishes him. Bailey doesn't have a specific arm slot. Sidearm. Three-quarters. Over the top. Doesn't matter nearly as much as the result: 24 runners caught stealing, the most in the NL.
Quote: | "I hate to say who I think he's like," said the scout, so I'll say it for him: Yadier Molina. The scout's brethren agree: Bailey can be so good that comparing him to arguably the greatest defensive catcher ever to don the tools doesn't feel far-fetched. |
|
Yeah, if both Bailey and Harrison pan out, wow. Farhan Zaidi finally found something in San Francisco.
Those are 2 huge pieces to rebuild with. |

One of the best examples of a starter with wicked, but uncontrollable stuff, ultimately thriving in the bullpen. When he’s on-on, I’m honestly shocked he gives up any contact. |

I was so frustrated to hear he put up the stop sign. He’s honestly dangerous out there—such a poor read. Make them make the play — the number of times he’s put that sign up and the throw is like half up the line to a catcher stumbling to grab it…like you REALLY didn’t think it was worth the risk at all??? |

That dude is insane. He operated on Aaron Rodgers a few days ago and follows it up with Ohtani. His calendar must be fascinating. He has operated on Kobe, Burrows, Brady, and Saquon Barkley. The list goes on and on.. |

He may get to 30 giving us 3 30 homer guys, not to mention what Freeman and Outman are doing. A good season. Overshadowed by the all-time, homer happy Braves, but not a bad offense. |

I was thinking about this but maybe you don’t want to mess things up. I don’t know but it’s pretty obvious him and Will should swap. |
