I think most agree.
But people's internet personas are something different.

It’s only the idiot haters that don’t.
They just hate him and act like they have a real clue about basketball.

Dude is averaging 30 points a game, in year 20.
Going to pass one of the supposed “unbreakable” records held for almost 40 years.
Will also be 4th all time in assists.
Also, 9th in steals but likely will get to 6th.
19 all star games
4 times champ
4 time finals mvps
4 regular season mvps
13 all nba first team

Hate him all you want, we will likely never see another player like this ever!!!

Alas, this is what people do. They did it with Jordan. They did it with Kobe. They're doing it again with LeBron. People don't understand how to appreciate greatness while in the moment. They want to spit vile hatred and claim a great player's worthlessness. This ignorance only robs them of their own opportunity to witness history in the making.

Am I the only one weirded out by the fact that James is already the all-time leading scorer, and has been for a while?

Why are playoff points not counted? I hear "playoff games played vary by player", but so what? Games played vary in general, that's the whole point. Kareem did 4 years of college, LeBron didn't. Kareem played longer than LeBron has played so far, and they've had different injuries, etc.

With a massive 41 point effort against Boston, LeBron is now 117 points away from the record. I've updated the OP to reflect that the ETA on when he will surpass Cap is moved up one game against New Orleans.

What a tough loss against the Celtics and their refs!

4 games left on the road. Him sitting out tomorrow, he will pretty much break the record at home vs OKC or Bucks.

-If he plays all 4 games only needed to average 29.25 ppg
-By only playing 3 games he needs 39ppg.

If he puts up 45-50 points vs the Knicks/Pacers. I can see him sitting out the Pels game also.

LBJ is great no doubt...major accomplishment...but if he sits out to break the record I will have a different opinion of him. The TEAM needs the wins, needs him to get them there.

It would be an embarrassing disgrace if the record is broken while the team is several games below .500 and not even quailed for the play in...not LBJ's fault...he is doing his part so far...but if he sits out to break the record at home then he will be part of the problem. And that is that this team just isn't committed to winning games...not the owner, not the front office, not the coach, not the players.

You play to win the game...to get to the playoffs...to compete for a championship. If a record is broken in that context then great...but if you sacrifice a win to break a record, even THE best record in the NBA history...that's a foul imo.

But it's looking like it'll be a road game. Maybe against the hated Pelis.

With Lebron taking today off, there's a good chance he breaks the record at home against the Thunder. Nice!

Hopefully, Russ is on the Thunder by that game.

If the NBA shortens the season to like 72 games and go with the mid season tournament, lebron’s scoring record will never be broken.he will keep adding to it too.

It will never be broken in my view. For starters coming straight out of high school and averaging 20+ is virtually impossible, Lebron could do it because he was built like a tank in 8th grade. Then maintaining that level of play for like 20 seasons is equally impossible, again in part due to his tank build. He is injury prone now but there was a time when the guy was indestructible.

It's hard to imagine LeBron not breaking the record in any game but the OKC game. He is on pace to breaking it the following game within the first couple of minutes (factoring his 29 ppg average). He is sniffing that record hard right now. He'll undoubtedly put a little something extra into each of the next few games.

Easily 30+ the rest of the way!

It's a given that he will break the record. The question will be, What will the final number be when he finally hangs it up.

Lebron is breaking KAJ record 3 years younger, and with 150 games less. Almost 2 full seasons faster. That pretty much negates the 3-4 years headstart that he got.

I came across THIS article talking about ticket prices for the game breaking record.

Quote:
Lakers vs. Thunder | Feb. 7
• Lowest price: $326
• Average price: $1,152
• Increase from season opener: 390%

Lakers vs. Bucks | Feb. 9
• Lowest price: $357
• Average price: $1,302
• Increase from season opener: 175%

Looks like people are buying up the wrong game! They're betting on the Bucks game over OKC.

Oh, who knows? If Kareem had come to the NBA straight out of high school, LeBron still might be 10,000 points behind him at this point. But that's not the way it happened so who cares?

If that happens, how quickly would the price of the New Orleans tickets shoot up?

Quote:
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's current record: 38,387
LeBron James current total: 38,325

1/28 vs Boston: 41 points. Points needed: 117
1/30 vs Brooklyn: DNP
1/31 vs New York: 28 points. Points needed: 89
2/2 vs Indiana: 26 points. Points needed: 63
2/4 vs New Orleans:
2/7 vs OKC:
2/9 vs Milwaukee: (On pace to break the record here)
2/11 vs Golden State:
2/13 vs Portland:
2/15 vs New Orleans:

2/18 - ALL STAR BREAK

So, now that we are just a few games away from LeBron breaking this record, what do you think is the ideal situation? He's currently on track to breaking it at the end of the OKC game or at the start of the Bucks game. Do you think there is any benefit to breaking this record towards the end or the start of a game?

The last 3 games LeBron has been scoring just below his season average. He needs a strong game on Tuesday to break the record. 36 points away! I usually don't watch the games live due to the limited time that I have. But, this one I will be tuning in for!

I think he breaks the record on the next game.

I do, hopefully they build a lead. If so, I think they feed him so they get it in a win.

LeBron finally makes his first shot in the game, a 3-pointer five minutes into the first quarter. Boy, that crowd erupted! The buzz in that building must be awesome! It's going to be a fun game to watch for that reason alone. Everyone in the building wants him to shoot everything!
