Two Turnovers... The Lakers set a franchise record with just 2 turnovers tonight. Combine that with 9 offensive boards and you’ve got a lot of possessions and a lot of points.

Unfortunately, the Lakers didn’t play a lot of defense. Their interior played small all night. The Rockets got easy scores and the Lakers struggled to shake them despite keeping the Rockets from getting out in transition.

Late in the game, the Lakers were trying to get some separation, but gave up a 9-0 run midway through the fourth.

With Bron trying to take a breather, he got just 1 minute of rest before we called him back in.

“I was extremely exhausted today, extremely tired,” he said.

He came back in and immediately went to work with a big post score. He’d later hit a pull-up bank and find teammates for scores as the Lakers went on to the 140-132 win.

LeBron finished the night with 48 points, 9 assists, 8 boards and no turnovers. Whether it was threes, midrange, working the post or getting to the rim with speed, the complete offensive game was on display.

LeBron -- -- Huge scoring night from Bron. “I think it’s historic, man, on a lot of levels,” Ham said of Bron dropping 48 with 9 assists. He made his first four threes and 5-6, then missed his next four (which almost all those seemed to be in the fourth). At times, he was just too big for the Rockets defenders. But with that midrange jumper also falling, that’s a tough cover for the Rockets. He had 18 points on 7-11 shooting in the first half and 30 in the second half on 9-15 shooting. His biggest make of the night might have been a post up out of a timeout after the Rockets rattled off a 9-0 run in the fourth. He came back in the game and hit the And-1 turnaround working the post to steady the team and prevent anything crazy from happening. “He’s just been in an incredible rhythm and it’s shown,” Ham said. Very close to a triple-double. The Stats: He scored 48 points on 16-26 shooting (5-10 from three, 11-12 from the line) to go with 8 boards, 9 assists and 1 foul in 36 minutes. He was a +19..

Bryant -- -- Less than 5 minutes into the third quarter and Sengun had 30 on him. He just got destroyed in this game. Sengun was scoring over and around him with ease. Bryant was not punching back on the other end (he was blocked a couple of times, including a post up attempt late in the game that Sengun just ate up. So no offense and just a lot of easy scores over him. He did have a couple blocks, but those were on guards he switched to challenge as they tried to scoop soft stuff around him. Late in the game, when Wenyen fouled out, we went to JTA instead of Bryant. The Stats: He scored 6 points on 1-6 shooting (0-1 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 6 boards, 2 blocks and 3 fouls in 18 minutes. He was a -10.

Schröder -- -- He seems to come up big for the Lakers quite a bit in the fourth quarter. He had a huge And-1 layup off a handoff with Bron with 3:40 left. He hit and elbow pull-up and a floater off a screen in the first half. Passing wise, not too much in this one. He did have a nice underhanded scoop to Gabriel for an And-1 layup. The Stats: He scored 9 points on 3-9 shooting (0-1 from three, 3-5 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 3 assists and 3 fouls in 33 minutes. He was a +8.

Beverley -- -- Back in the mix and the pattern remains the same. SUper strong first half, and then kind of disappears after that. He had 11 points on 3-5 shooting from three in the first half. He didn’t score in the second half and just took one shot. He did step in to take a charge in the second half on a play. But otherwise was once again a one-half wonder. The Stats: He scored 11 points on 3-6 shooting from three (2-2 from the line) to go with 2 boards, 1 assist and 2 fouls in 22 minutes. He was a +1.

Brown -- -- First off, he had one of our 2 turnovers in this game. He took his eye off a pass, unforced. He made a couple of threes in the first half. One on a swing pass, one on an inbounds pass he gave up, stepped in, got it back and drilled. Some weak D again at times, getting backdoored not paying attention and scored on easily late in the game. We need better on that end than he’s been giving lately. The Stats: He cored 6 points on 2-4 shooting from three to go with 3 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover and no fouls in 29 minutes. He was a -7.

Westbrook -- -- More of a scoring night than a passing game. Either way, no turnovers. Got to love that. “I’d rather get up shots than turn the ball over,” he said. The midrange was looking decent tonight. He was also able to get downhill off some nice screens. Additionally, we were changing ends with speed tonight and got some easy ones that way, as well. He was asked about a dust up with assistant coaches at the half. “Just a conversation. I didn’t get into it with anybody,” Russ said. Asked what the topic was, he said he wouldn’t share it. Ham mentioned it was rotation related. The Stats: He scored 24 points on 9-16 shooting (0-3 from three, 6-8 from the line) to go with 5 boards, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 fouls in 32 minutes. He was a +13.

Gabriel -- -- The team is really putting a lot of trust in him, having him out there trying to close games. Another good outing from him. His first half in this one was packed full of the little things that coaches like. First, all motor and effort. He’s keeping offensive boards alive or scoring on putbacks. That’s the kind of stuff you need around ball-dominant players. He’s also setting hard screens to allow both Bron and Westbrook to get downhill. Those guys are also looking for him after he rolls off those, as well. But he’s stopping defenders and the screens and our guys are getting speed into that drop coverage and making things happen. Defensively, we had to deal with the foul issues. He can seemingly hang with the bigs at times, but as the last line of defense with guards running at you, that can be trouble. He fouled out with a couple minutes left when DS let his man get around him on iso. After he fouled out, he sat next to AD who was in his ear, most likely about how to avoid a foul and going vertical. He also had Bron in his ear, as well, throughout the game. Really enjoying his growth this season and seeing the coaches reward him. The Stats: He scored 14 points on 5-8 shooting (0-1 from three, 4-4 from the line) to go with 9 boards (5 offensive), 2 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks and 6 fouls in 24 minutes. He was a +15.

Nunn -- -- This is the kind of game you one from him. That microwave offensive effort off the bench. The three ball wasn’t really there (1-5), but he had some nice finishes around the rim. The best was a hammer dunk that surprised a defender in transition. But he was able to use his body well under the hoop at other times to finesse some scores in. The Stats: He scored 15 points on 7-12 shooting (1-5 from three) to go with 2 boards, 1 assist and no fouls in 24 minutes. He was a -6.

Toscano-Anderson -- -- He was impressed with the Lakers lack of turnovers. He was the other guy with a turnover in this one, a step on the sideline, again unforced turnover. Offensively, he buried a three, just beating the shotclock buzzer on it. He also had a layup on a Russ drive and dish. And he stole a pass on the perimeter and took it the distance for a layup. Defensively, he had a dump foul on a reach 30 feet from hoop on a three at the buzzer to close a quarter. Painful. The Stats: He scored 7 points on 3-4 shooting (1-2 from three) to go with 2 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 16 minutes. He was a -10.

Christie -- -- Some brief minutes out there. Nothing really stood out, but his length on D just getting in that defensive stance on other guards is going to be fun to watch as he improves on that end of the floor. It would have been nice to get him some more minutes tonight. The Stats: He had no stats in 5 minutes. He was a +3.

Ham -- -- Key Moment: A 9-0 run by the Rockets in the middle of the fourth quarter spelled trouble. Ham called timeout, brought Bron back in after a minute of rest and went to him in the post. LBJ answered with an And-1. Big bucket.

Key Substitution: They got some good efforts off the bench tonight. Wenyen with the 14 and 9. Russ with 24 and no turnovers. Nunn chipping in with 15. Gabriel and Russ are pretty consistent. It would be nice if Nunn could give us that with more regularity. Seems like he’s been starting to do a little more of that this month.

Key Stats: The turnovers. The Lakers had just 2, a franchise record. How do you not dominate? The team was playing fast, too. We just couldn’t force turnovers ourselves and get stops. Very little interior presence in this one.

Coach’s Challenge: With 11 seconds left, they challenged an And-1. While the challenge was unsuccessful because the foul was still on Schröder, it was ruled before the gather, so the continuation didn’t count. So two FTs and Sengun missed both FTs. So “unsuccessful,” but actually quite successful up 6 late.

Season high from LeBron plus franchise record two turnovers, and we still only just barely beat the worst team in the league. Concerning.

Ugly Win is a Win

Hopefully, the team was just at their normal defensive intensity because they were playing the Rockets - not the Kings, 76ers or Mavs

Yeah that’s my thought too. Saw some graphic that the Lakers were top 5 defense for January so I’m thinking this was more fatigue and B2B situation.

That's one of the cleanest stat lines of LeBron's career, and we nearly lost to the Rockets.
