Glad it’s finally come to reality.

It's why Ham should have just trusted what we were building in the playoffs. Unfortunately he let his friendship with Taurean cloud his judgement.

Vanderbilt's injury is what allowed Rui to start. That injury was a blessing in disguise because we aren't beating the Nuggets with defense starting Vanderbilt - his POA defense will not nullify his lack of impact on offense against specifically the Nuggets. If (big IF) we beat them, it will be with occasional defense, rebounding and real offensive flow from 5 guys who are all threats to score. D'Lo needs to show up as well vs the Nuggets. If we are prepping for the Nuggets who are really our one real threat, its better Rui gets acclimated with the starting group.

Yup! It’s also nothing against Prince, but no way he should’ve been playing a guaranteed 30 minutes a night.

Even business wise..we had Rui, Dlo, and Austin playing less minutes than Prince at certain points and they’re our highest paid players after Bron and AD

Earned the starting spot even when (or if) Vando comes back

As long as we continue to feed him. He’s on a tear right now, make the most of it

100% agree. All 4 starters DLO, Reeves, Bron, AD can set up Rui for easy looks and baskets. Vando is a weak rim finisher and has no 3pt shot. Lakers strategy moving forward is to overwhelm opposing teams with suffocating offense

And some fools were saying Rui was washed, a waste of money, not worth his new contract, etc.

Been begging to give him steady 28-30mpg...

This should have been him to start the season with Vando out. Should have been the penciled starter replacement. Rui probably MIP candidate right now.

Rui wasn't actually a starter in the playoffs . The one time he started was game 4 against Denver.

What's crazy is that Ham briefly started Rui a few weeks ago and said that would be the lineup going forward. Then he got hurt and he didn't start again until Vando got hurt.

Look like those offseason workout with Lebron is paying off.

I saw a few moves from him tonight that I don't think he can do.

Gotta do something about his rebounding efforts though. If he boards, he would be crazy invaluable because this type of shooting isn't a nightly thing.

Night and day compared to Kuzma. Rui actually shows up in the playoffs and is efficient. Kuzma is an inefficient playoff mental weakling.

That’s actually hard as hell to say because Kuzma never played one game in his Laker career where he got to start with Bron and AD … it was maddening. He literally would fill in for them and go 18 and 9 but never got to play with them.

Also to be fair to Kuzma, Rui could never do what Kuzma did his last year in LA. Kuzma forced the team along with Denis to the playoffs. AD and Bron missed a ton of games and Kuzma and Denis were there best players out west with a top defense, and they played 500 ball basically without them. Kuzma in that time was first in minutes, first in offensive and defensive rebounds, first in blocks, second in steals, second in assists, first in points, and won a lot of games for us under Frank alongside Denis and KCP to get us to the playoffs. Rui isn’t doing that without Bron and AD both.

I gladly take Rui over him here now, but it’s always go be a (bleep) it would have been nice to have seen Kuzma, Bron, and AD start together for a game even, let alone multiple. Rui and Kuzma played together in Washington and Kuzma was clearly better than him and clearly out worked him at the time

i take rui 10 times out of 10 over kuzma its not even a debate in my mind Rui is a real one and hopefully this game shows that he should be featured more in our offense. I want plays called for the guy because he is a bucket. I trust him on the block more than AD tbh he has such a feathery touch. That turn around fade against Kessler was a helluva shot

Kuzma: better iso scorer and volume scorer
Rui: better shooter

Eye test tells me they’re similar at everything else. I’d take Kuz, but it’s closer than most (outside this forum) would think

Anyway, Kuz would hate playing on the same team as Spencer again lol

LeBron heir apparent, we pretty much got back one of the traded FRP for AD

It's great to see Rui unleashed!

I was just looking at the per 36 averages of our new starting lineup:

LeBron - 25.6
AD - 25.1
DLo - 20.1
Reaves - 18.3
Rui - 17.8
Total - 106.9

That's pretty impressive, giving that the highest scoring team in the NBA, the Indiana Pacers, is only scoring 123.5 per 48 minutes.

Of course these numbers are a bit inflated of what they could actually accomplish, as none of them have been playing a full 36 minutes per game, and they don't always play with the others (e.g., Rui's numbers go up in games that LeBron sits.). And those who replace them when they sit are scoring at a much lower rate.

Still though, you can see why this lineup is doing serious damage. I haven't checked yet but I wonder how it compares with other starting lineups in the league.

He said, it's the line-up they had in the playoffs. I don't think he was talking about starting.

The guy is super talented. It was a crime when he wasn’t getting the playing time.

Rui has all the tools.
