Just curious, considering the Jazz want to rebuild...why give up on Vanderbilt?
Jazz see Walker Kessler as more important, thus Van was squeezed. Similar situation when Jarred was in Minnesota, Mcdaniels was also viewed as the more important player who needed minutes. Ask wolves fans how much they miss Van's defense, rebounding, and energy. He's only 23 and his 3 pt. shot improves every year.
Ham need to to utilized him (like how Minny did) as more of a point of attack defender to fortify our perimeter defense. He’s much more effective when he’s out there disrupting the passing lanes and putting pressure on guards like how Pippen used to setting up angles on halfcourt trap from full court pressure.
You could see this guy quickly, becoming a fan favorite we love whenever people put out effort, defensively, and frankly, our defense has sucked lately

want to see a combination with him together with Pat and Reaves or even Max. Put Bron and AD with this 3 player combination. 3 energy players that can defend and has decent 3s together with Bron and AD would be a hell of a lineup.

Agreed. When Minny play Memphis in the playoffs, Van gave Memphis fits. I just hope he is used correctly, and not penalized for his inconsistent shooting. He brings so much to the table, you don't have to run plays for him, he'll clean up offensive boards, score on put-backs, and cuts to the basket. I think he'll bring life to this seemingly lifeless team.

There is also a Lakers who play like this but Ham decided to let him ride the bench. Wenyen.
^^^ This isn't true. The two players may be similar in height and both are energetic, but they are different players in skill sets. Gabriel is a better shooter, and Vanderbilt is both a better on-ball perimeter defender as well as a stronger defender down low.

I agree with others here that the key is coach Ham. Not only does he have to use Vandy "correctly", often as a primary defender on the perimeter as noted by posters above, but he also needs to emphasize more fighting through screens rather than trying to switch everything.
Doing the latter allows opposing teams to dictate which Laker defends their key perimeter attackers when they set up picks, and will defeat the purpose of putting Vandy on them if he is told to switch when they do. _________________ "LeBron for three!" is BY FAR the worst sentence in the English language.
Looking at his highlights he reminds me of caruso defensively. He's really great with his hands and moving his feet, he plays the lanes well, fights over screens, and is tough with a high motor.
Loved him in Minnesota, didnt see him much this season. Hopefully he brings that energy _________________ 48 49 50 52 53 54 72 80 82

I had to find some kind of insight about JV. The two areas of concern for him from college days were injuries & his jumper. Other than that, one article I read stated that he's virtually guaranteed to out perform his draft position because of his injury history.
I was also thrilled to find out that JV was one of the players Dame in Portland wanted to play with most in the league because of his skillset. It has been likened to Lamar because they're both 6'9 and left-handed, can rebound, and run.
Pelinka, based on everything I've read, did extremely well with these acquisitions in general, and this one sepecifically.

People often make this comparison but I don't think it is correct. While both players are similar in size/length and bring intensity, Jarred is much quicker with greater mobility, he can better defend the quicker guards and forwards. I'd love to see both on the court at the same time.
