If that's a concern, it would mean either he's injured or damaged. No reason to expect him to be cleared to play if either of those were a factor.

We won’t know if he’s healthy until he’s played a handful of games. Hopefully the extended time away made this a non issue. The hope is that he doesn’t make the all star team so he can get some more rest coming up.

Medical professionals have the responsibility of ensuring that he’s healthy before he ever gets near the court. It’s not about taking a shot in the dark to find out. Many tests are done, followed by his playing against coaches and G League guys. I may not know his skill level, but there’s not a shadow of a doubt Vanderbilt is returning to the court as a healthy individual. No Dr will risk their professional reputation and not do their due diligence to ensure that.

That actually happened last season

I have a hard time believing working with coaches, g league etc equals that of must win NBA games - but hopefully the outstanding lakers medical professionals are right.

Last year it took about a month for him to get into playing shape, and he wasn't coming off of surgeries on both feet. I think even if he could back into game shape in a few weeks, fully trusting his feet will take much longer. I'm very skeptical we see the Vando we saw for about 10 games last year (before getting hurt) this season.

We simply do not have the offensive horses to hang with this team.

I saw in interview he discussing these were tests like if he cut without discomfort among other things so that part may not be a concern. As far as getting into game shape, yes definitely seeing that take time so could be a while before he makes an impact.

We will see how long it takes him to get back to his normal self, but I do think his defense/rebounding could be huge for this team.

Not sure how the minutes are going to break down when everyone is healthy. AD/Lebron are getting massive minutes. Rui/DFS expect to play a lot. AD really wants the Lakers to acquire another big and push him more to PF. If Vando impresses before the deadline it could mean the end of Rui on the team.

Guranteed 20mins tonight with Rui out. Do they start him or DFS?

He’s already fresh

Nice activity tonight. All I want to see. The one corner three he had looked the same as before (not good), but that isn’t really his game. Just being active and getting his hand in the ball and disrupting with his physicality is what he brings to the table, and it looked good today.

Agreed, I feel Vuc would perfectly fit well with him or AD.

Jarred Vanderbilt said he knew he would be a little rusty coming in but just wanted to bring energy and "control the controllables."

He added that it was hard to replicate NBA game speed and reps but it was good to get back out there.

Quote:
JJ Redick says on @SpectrumSN that Jarred Vanderbilt was "awesome" tonight and "did everything we needed him to do."

He added that Vando had not looked this good in his recent workouts.

When he actually plays, he’s great for this team. He just needs to actually…play.

Hopefully once his rust wears off, he will show some improved offense so that he doesn’t become a liability come playoff time.

I'd love to see the Lakers utilize Vando in transition, either as a ball-handler or finisher. He was starting to do that well last season before he got hurt, and we need to play a lot faster than we have anyway.

Yeah I said this in another thread but onto of complementing Vando perfectly he also fills a huge need. He'd start, but our bench scoring and assists were 29th in the league coming into the game. You add his 3 4apg and multi-level scoring to the rotation and one of LBJ or AD or Vuc will always be out there. He also cost less than Kessler. I really wouldn't deal a first without heavy protection.
