Failure on both sides. Engineers should be able to make a ride that fits a 40" waistline.

And yes OP. Stop eating so much people!

I kind of get it from a legal liability angle though. There have been incidents where there have been amusement park ride accidents because safety harnesses could properly latch because of a persons proportions. It’s not really a one size fits all situation in all cases.

Rides have height limits pretty much since safety measures went into such rides without accusations of stature shaming.

They wouldn't enjoy healthful foods like bananas being thrown at them anyway.

Is it a lap bar kind of harness? I could see the shoulder harness style probably working for every size from child to 40 plus adult, but not a lap bar type.

Plus, there's always been assumed and unwritten weight restrictions on rides, even moreso than on planes because the vehicles in amusement parks are constructed of hard plastic over steel support frames. There's not even an option to purchase 2 seats like you might be able to on a plane (cushioned seats w/ more room). Someone who was too big to sit in the seats of Revolution in the 70s-2000s couldn't ride the ride. In the case of The Revolution, we're talking someone even bigger than the 1983 version of John Candy, who rode on it in Vacation 1.

A person who is too big that they probably couldn't even walk around a large amusement park couldn't fit into any of the rides even if they navigated the park on a cart. Someone who is too big to fly on an airplane faces the same unwritten rules. Fact, there was a woman who recently died from sitting in her chair because she was disconnected from a flight and couldn't find another one that could accommodate. I don't remember what she died from, but it was during that wait in a chair which restricted her breathing. If such a thing can happen from sitting stationary, maybe an extra large person shouldn't be riding MFing roller coasters to begin with.
