It is a shame because the guy is great talent. But he needs to leave the gangster stuff behind, find new friends.

Ja is in danger of trashing a very promising career. He's only 23 so I'm not going to give up on him yet.

SAS made a point this morning that I hope Ja was listening to. Ja is running with wannabe gangsters. Real gangsters don't like posers which is what Ja is. They don't like him.

I hope people of the real gangster ilk find a way to get the message through to him. People like him last about 15 minutes on the real streets. He's got it made. He can use his talent to get over and help others.

C'MON MAN TO WHOM MUCH IS GIVEN MUCH IS REQUIRED.

JJ Redick’s political inclinations/positions has mistakenly been used to apply to the Terms and Conditions of a “Private Company” (NBA)

Acknowledge that his job on ESPN is to get ratings. He is a rising star that has resulted in his bombastic opening monologue on a recent First Take episode when SAS was on location

Mark Stein
“ there is NO specific suspension length in league bylaws. Suspension length is imposed at the commissioner’s discretion."”

“ NBA has a strict code of conduct for players, which includes provisions against discrimination, harassment, and other forms of misconduct. Players who violate the code of conduct are subject to disciplinary action, including fines and suspension”

In the past
“ NBA commissioner David Stern suspended Washington Wizards guards Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton for the remainder of the NBA season Wednesday, and ESPN.com learned that Arenas has agreed not to appeal the punishment.”

Ja did nothing illegal. There is zero misconduct in what he did. Silver may not like it but it doesn't break any code of ethics.

GA/javaris IIRC brought a firearm into a team facility where one guy threatened the other.

The AR has replaced the eagle as the American way.

According to state laws, yes he did nothing illegal. Ja has admitted that brandishing a gun is an act of misconduct, that he broke a NBA Code of Ethics and he broke his clearly stated promise to Silver to "change his ways." Understant that you might like the facts, but all parties have agreed that a very serious grievance has been repeated

Silver was very lenient and provided a great deal of trust that Morant will live up to his words. Ja's inability/unwillingness/inability to live up to his clearly stated promises will have serious consequences.

Acknowledge your acceptance of having one of the best young faces of the NBA to act with disdain the terms and conditions that govern the actions of all the other NBA players from KD to LBJ to Luka to Giannis to Curry to Tatum to AD to Jokic, etc.

Stern/Silver has worked very hard to cultivate a reputation that resulted in the NBA having the highest average salary of any American sports, replaced baseball as the #1 sport and created heros from many exciting athletes to the benefits of all the players. Morant is not bigger than the NBA

-

"The NBA is free to prohibit such actions under the rules of Morant’s contract and a conduct-detrimental-to-the-league clause in the collective bargaining agreement it has with the players union.

Start with this: The Second Amendment protects a citizen from government action. Neither the Grizzlies nor the NBA is the government, so this is a completely moot point.

The NBA isn’t saying the 23-year-old can’t own a gun. It isn’t even saying he can’t brandish it. It just doesn’t want him doing it on a publicly available video. It’s a significant difference.

The NBA does not want to be associated with gun culture. Players are the face of the league, frontmen for the entire multibillion dollar enterprise. Morant is one of the most prominent of them, an electric athlete who draws in television viewers and ticket holders every time he takes the court.

Some have pointed out that members of Congress and other elected officials regularly pose with firearms, even with their children. Why should Morant, just a basketball player, have to live to a “higher” standard than a lawmaker?

Well, because the NBA is a business and Congress isn’t. Politicians are trying to appeal to a small segment of the population, usually gerrymandered into a homogenous group. If such an act wasn’t popular with their constituents, they wouldn’t do it. Having other people from other areas condemn their action is actually a political strength and an additional part of the strategy.

The approval rating for Congress is dreadful. The NBA would go out of business if just a small sliver of the populace approved of it."

"As of Thursday, the embattled point guard’s Ja 1 sneakers are not available on Nike’s website, which comes days after Morant appeared to brandish a firearm in an Instagram Live video that surfaced Saturday."

Totally! I expected this to be at least half a season since this is a repeat offense now. Although this isn't the same as taking guns into the locker room, the guy has now done this twice. Even the combined suspensions of both incidents is much less than the Arenas/Crittenton ones which were ~50 games, I believe. Unbelievable.

I don't think this is a severe enough punishment to get through to him to change his behavior/friends he surrounds himself with.
