Would love it if AD played out his career with the Lakers. He would for sure be deserving to join our group of legends.

LBJ will be the next jersey retired, and deserves it without a doubt.

He did average 28/10 while shooting 57% from the field and 38% from three en route to a title.

He has one great year as a Laker. To me that is not enough to have your jersey retired and belong there with the greats. I know he has been hurt after that but he need to more productive as a Laker to deserve it even if we won’t win another ring.

The Thunder will. If you doubt this then I question your basketball knowledge.

Pau - yes
Bron - yes
AD - one more chip or MVP or DPOY or a 2-3 consecutive seasons of deep playoff run

Here are the Hall of Famers who played at least 100 games for the Lakers without getting their numbers retired.

Vlade Divac. 535 games.

Bob McAdoo. 224 games. Key bench player for two ring teams.

Adrien Dantley. 114 games.

Connie Hawkins. 114 games.

Wow, Vlade played a lot for us. That’s an interesting one. Maybe he was just too much of a rival during the three peat years.

vlade was a pretty good laker, but never was a GREAT laker. bscott, dfish, horry have a better shot than vlade at get their jerseys retired by lal. vlade was damn good on the kings; that's where his prime and skill were on full display. not in lal; cick used to say about vlade, "me dumb dumb".

Wilt played 5 seasons in LA, won 1 chip, but fought with his coach that he sat out the final half quarter of a crucial game 7 in a Finals loss vs Boston, and then reneged on the final year of his Lakers contract that the Lakers had to sue him, win, but rather than suit up again for the Lakers, he decided to retire from the NBA. Wilt’s jersey was still retired.

So yes, LeBron’s jersey will be retired.

Lakers only retire numbers after HoF induction.

Did Vlade get into the HoF and I missed it?

He was put into the HoF in 2019.

He was selected by the international committee. He didn't get in beecause of his NBA career, which is among the weakest of players in the Hall who played in the NBA.

Ahhhhhh!

The other Laker rule is a ring. So there's no chance for him and that's how it should be.

Agree with everyone that AD needs another ring. I think he'll get it.

There's no rule about a ring. The Lakers inducted Elgin Baylor who never won a ring. (They gave him a ring from the '72 team as a good will gesture, but he retired 9 games into the season and officially is ringless.)

In fact, there isn't any official rules or policy about anything when it comes to retiring jerseys. There's only a tradition that we only retired Hall of Famers. But the Lakers if they so choose could retire anyone they wanted tomorrow.

The reason Divac won't be retired is because he had a mediocre Lakers career.

Policy no...what org would have such a ridiculous thing.

Rules yes...Jeannie has been open about it in interviews many times and she has cited what I have shared.

So rather than argue something so inconsequential with you...I'll just leave it as...you're right, but I'll still take Jeannie's word over yours.✌️

Anyone feel odd when they panned to Fisher during the Pau ceremony...

These responses are hilarious. Both guys have more than cleared the criteria. It’s fine to disagree that they should be retired. If you don’t think they will be you’re delusional. The idea that the Buss family (who worship stars) would take a pass on putting LeBron James’ jersey in the rafters for the crime of not winning MULTIPLE championships is real Fantasyland stuff.

This is 100% correct. Every stop Lebron had is salivating to retire his number and possibly build him a statue (in Cleveland for sure). Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis gifted Lebron a $2M pendant for passing Kareem in scoring. The Jersey retirement is a given.

Lebron isn’t getting a statue .

He’s been here like 4 years, they haven’t been good years. Corona cup aside, they have been in the lottery or in the play-in. That’s far from greatness.

I am not familiar with any comments that Jeanne has made that the Lakers would only retire the jersey of a player who has won a ring. She may have said this; but I haven't heard her say this myself. But as I said the Lakers have already retired the number of a player who didn't win a ring, so that certainly hasn't been a rule in the past.

And if you're saying that the lack of a ring is the only thing that kept the Lakers from retiring Divac's number, I would be dubious of that. If he won a ring in his last season as a bench player, a la Bob McAdoo, I don't think they would retire his jersey just as they didn't retire McAdoo, who is a Hall of Famer that won two rings here.

Who knows? He's in his 5th year as a Lakers right now and will likely play at least two more seasons here. It wouldn't shock me if they put a LeBron statue in front of the arena at some point in the future.

I mean, they got a statue of Oscar de la Hoya out there, so I wouldn't say anything is impossible.
