his jumpshot form looks a little less...spazzy? He had this release like he was barfing up his shot. it looks a little smoother. His only hope of being a plus for us is 40% shooter from 3.

I noticed in his clips they are mainly off the dribble also. Really needs to become more comfortable with shooting off the catch.

Maybe JHS is ramping up to play if he's posting workout videos.

Summer league starts on the 6th. Roster will have to be finalized soon.

I will be pissed if we pick someone we did not work out. No reported workout on JHS last year and look how that turned out. Passed on a lot of good players last year.

We never worked out Scrubfino?

they did work him out. didn't he tell rob in the interview that he idolized kobe and that's what sealed the deal? lol

https://www.nba.com/lakers/videos/jalen-hood-schifino-draft-workout

That cannot be true. We didn’t work him out?? We drafted him on his whatever tape and him saying “mamba mentality”??

Did you look at the link you posted? It states "A look at Jalen Hood-Schifino's workout with the Lakers prior to the 2023 NBA Draft"

Buy low, sell high.
So many mock trades just dump this guy for no reason. But if you're not getting close to FRP value for him, then I don't want to see him traded. Might as well see what he's can do through development.

He's slow, not athletic and can't hit his shots. Yeah, I wish him well, but
a couple of those things won't change...

He shot 43.2% from 3 in the G-League. Is the defense in the NBA better? Absolutely. Still, there is reason to be optimistic about his shooting.

Then that unlocks a lot in his offensive game. He is a big body guard who projects well in a switchable league (he had problems against quick guards, not sure if that's a technique thing he's working on).

IDK man, like he looked (bleep) terrible in the NBA but you don't give up on a project player in Year 1, especially when he at least showed signs in the G-League.

He needs to be a 40%+ shooter in this league to have any chance at being a plus player imo. Defenses are going to dare him to shoot anyway, but he’s too slow to take advantage of tighter defense. Harder closeouts might open up the rim for him, but he’s been reluctant to attack it even in G-league, which is the most worrisome thing to me. Even tiny ass Mac McClung is driving the rim in G-League. He needs a hot shooting month in the pros to get his value back up. Maybe show some 2-3 switchability and maybe other teams can be tricked into thinking he could be really good and not just a 3rd/4th guard off the bench who btw has also already had one back operation.

Of course that will flip the narrative in LA that we need to keep this kid, he might be “That third star” etc.

I really don’t get the hate for this kid. He played point guard for one year and got drafted to do it. That’s pretty impressive imo. His first developmental year with the lakers was his second year at point guard.

I say let’s give him time. I can see him being great in PnR and shooting from mid range. His shot isn’t broken and I can see him being a league average 3p shooter. He’s a big guy so he should have a mismatch offensively In The post.

I think he will be good on defense as well. Can’t wait to see him in summer league.

Not to mention he's crushing g league and looks incredibly good doing it. Fixed a lot of his flaws.

People are obsessed with who was drafted after him and he doesn't have a 40 inch vertical.

Again, i wish him well but I just don't see how he can be of
actual value.

Hope I'm wrong.

I agree. Part of why I hated this pick is because I hate ball dominant players without off ball skills like JHS, unless they project to be elite which no one really thought out of a guy mocked routinely in the teens and not high lottery.

But he's also 20 and shot 35-84 in the G-League which is good. I've watched lots of his highlights and don't remember him being an off ball shooter which I think he will need to be because, as you said, he lacks the burst to get to the basket. But no better guy than Redick to work on his off ball technique? Optimistically speaking

Was hoping I could see what level of scrub he has improved to. Hopefully I'll never have to find out but what a botched pick.

Jeez. Yep. I’m officially calling it: waste of a pick.

I feel bad for the kid, but man, this FO really (bleep) up that draft.

He had back surgery in late March. That's why he's not playing the Summer League.

That was such a brutal pick. So obvious you take Jaime Jaquez there but of course we couldn't just do the obvious and had to play it cute.

At least this year they took the best player on the board when they picked

Shame. Pretty sure he would have dominated and gained confidence. Now it's on to training camp which will be tougher for him.
