Nice player and story. That being said, the guy has zero base and can't rebound (and shows little effort in trying to do so). This is the part of the game that will determine if he can play with the big boys. I just do not see it. TBH, I think Huff is a better prospect.
My main criticism of his game in college, which I’m sure I put in the write up a few pages back prior to the summer league was his underwhelming rebounding. Some things can be fixed there, some I worry about. But if he’s a bench big, he can pick up the effort during short stints. I would love to have a high energy grinder who he had to go against in practice every day.
How much of it do you attribute to poor instincts, positioning, strength vs motor?
He's 6'11, long-armed, slender, with a great skillset. His main issue right now is two-fold. One, he needs to put on a few pounds. He'll be able to do that.
But, the second area is really where his longevity in the league will be determined. That would be his willingness to accept, and work through, the physicality of the NBA.
The best rebounders in the league have always had the common trait of embracing the physicality that rebounding requires. He's going to have to grow up both physically and mentally if he's to thrive in this league.
People be like "He can't rebound and doesn't try to!" when he literally just came off a 14 rebound game and now an 8 rebound game _________________ How NBA 2K18 failed the All-Time Lakers:

People be like "he can rebound" when he averaged 3.9, 5.9, and 5.9 his last 3 years at FL (last 2 years averaging over 30 minutes per game) COLIN DIESEL.
He has to bulk up. That's his main weakness at the moment. Guys see him as BBQ chicken when the Lakers are running him at the 5.
5 is the hardest position to play defensively. You have to cover for your teammates, know the angles on PnR/drop coverage, rebound the ball, protect the rim, etc. _________________ Yi Jianlian Fanboy. Respect The Chair.
Starting anew. I'm retiring my main.
The Castleton vs Ken Lofton Jr matchup should be very competitive; a clash of two contrasting styles. Lofton is literally a load and he's averaging 20.7 PPG.
The Lakers can win if they neutralize Loton, play solid defense and attack the rim.

I don't know, way too much bulk (40+ pounds worth!) for Castleton to handle at this stage of his career. But this will be a good game for him to hammer in what he really needs to be laser-focused on - put on some major bulk, seek, get and maintain position, rebound.

CC should be able put on at least 10 lbs. of muscle between now and training camp.
Lofton is also has a year of pro experience under his belt. He is strong, physical and smart.
This will be a good test for Castleton.

Lofton was not the battle we were hoping to see. Really a meh game from him and didn't mix it up with Castleton. I saw one post up attempt where he tried to back Castleton down and then settled for the fadeaway miss. But nothing really going on there all game.
Good to hear. Being 231 lbs is not enough to guard guys like Jokic if the Lakers can't find a Center and Colin becomes the choice to turn a 2 way player into a contract player with the Lakers.

I'd say Colin needs more development, I'll take a 7' C, that isn't old
as dust and can defend. _________________ Lakers need to build a freaking team !
Castleton, a rookie, is not the solution to guarding Jokic, the best player in the world lol. Let's be clear on that.
But no one is trying to make the argument he is the Jokic stopper year one.
The kid is have a good summer season and has some pretty nice college tape (you just don't see a lot of 7 footers handle the rock like him). Still think he has a really good chance to earn minutes this year.

No I totally agree. But there seem to people whose reasoning is somewhere along the lines of "He can't guard Jokic so he's not the solution" which is asinine. Even the whole "he's 230 pounds, he needs to gain mass" is true, but the idea is you'd play him against bench "centers" like Jeff Green anyway

Likely minutes in the G League as he hopefully develops _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
