Just like Magic fans were "laughing" at the Ariza hype I would imagine too back in the day....until Ariza showed the Magic were the jokes for getting rid of him for Maurice Evans.....oh and we beat Orlando in the finals the year Ariza broke out.

This kid's talent is evident and his head is in the right place. While he most likely wont be as mentally strong and clutch as Ariza, he is a better talent than Ariza ever was.

Getting a lot for our money and maybe this really sparks Cam's career. But where you end up playing and who you play with makes such a difference. Guys with a checkered past or bottom of the roster on losing teams, it gets discouraging and a lot of these guys have their games suffer. They are not at Duke or wherever playing half a dozen games against tough competition anymore. Get drafted high, usually to a bad team, and two years later you are called a bust.

Cam ends up on the Lakers, a team good at bringing out the best in some of these guys like Monk, Schroder, etc. Now Wood and Cam are playing meaningful but secondary roles on a team with a passer like Lebron and DLO and a legit bigman in Davis protecting the paint.

I know its crazy asking these guys to stick around, but if Wood and/or Cam decide to stick out another year until the Lakers can pay them more money, they might be a lot happier in the end.

These players can't take that risk.

If you get injured and fall out of the rotation your stock plummets. You are judged heavily on recent performance.

^^ I do get that, but I do wish we could get them to stick around.

Vanderbilt has been passed around just as much as Reddish has, has never even shown flashes of offensive potential...but Reddish is the one former fanbases are laughing about? Lol ok. Bizarre agenda here. I'll take the player who looks like a more balanced basketball player over the guy who does exactly one thing well.

I'll admit i was never on the Reddish hype-wagon. He looked like a chicken with his head cut off in Atlanta and then he basically disappeared in New York. But the Hawks aren't exactly renowned for their player development. And who has emerged over there with Trae Young dominating the ball? But having seen a fair bit of both Reddish and Vanderbilt in the lineup, Reddish is clearly the better player. The dropoff on defense isnt much. Reddish is 2nd in the NBA in deflections right now. His steal rate is a blistering 3.3% His shot-making is trending upward. And unlike Vanderbilt, he can drive to the basket or cut and actually finish at the rim. Vanderbilt is a purely situational bench guy to me that we unfortunately overpaid, which means he'll be forcefed minutes to justify it.

Cam leading the league in steals in November so far.

With 7 deflections and 3 more steals (1 block) against Portland, Cam Reddish is now:

tied for 2nd in total deflections
tied for 4th in total steals
is in the 100% %ile in steal% among wings

What a steal. I eat crow.

I think a great influence like LBJ and Ham was what was needed to get the most out of this guy.

I hope he returns the favor by staying w/the Lakers on a team friendly deal with potential for a bigger one later.

I've been a hater since his Duke days and surely thought Cam signing was Pelinka doing a favor for Clutch agency.

If crow tastes this good, I want some more please.
Love his game changing defense. Stay on that road buddy.

Now that Torrey Craig was had for the same price, the Reddish signing looks a lot worse. Especially considering it was in the first hour or so of FA.

I am not losing sleep over Torrey Craig who averages 6 points and 34% in threes his entire career.

Laker management obviously sees value on a 23 yr old former lottery pick over 32 year old Torrey Craig.

I knew this was steal of a signing by the Lakers!

His defense is really something else.....the ball pressure that he puts at POA - KCP-like. Plus unlike KCP, dude has strength so he cant easily be muscled off by stronger dudes.

Cam has really found a role on this team... To a point, even when he's not shooting well. It's hard for Ham to take him out because of his defense.

Didn't shoot well tonight. But had 3 steals again and game high +13.

Held to very respected scorers in FVV and Green to 8-24 I don’t care how many pts he scored if ended up helping us on that end, great job

Cam has terrific size for 3 and D.

6'8" with a 7'1" wingspan. He can easily guard 1-3 spots for us. That's why he's so valuable.

Plus he's building that trust with LBJ, so he's getting those kick outs for 3 pt shots.

The D on FVV was a sight to behold. Especially when you contrast it to our traffic cones DLO and Reaves.

Wish we had just used the Cam signing as a replacement for TBj and saved the BAE as a path to possibly bring him back next year. Rui in the starting lineup with Cam could keep us afloat waiting for a Vin/Van to return. I’m very pleased with the defense Cam is playing so far and perhaps we can benefit in the future from his offensives skills that we know are there as well.

AD/Wood
LBJ
Rui
Cam
Dlo/AR

should not shoot 3 other than the left corner 3. He is 7/13 in that area this season, the rest he shoot poorly.

As he's playing right now, he should definitely remain in the starting lineup. Prince is the odd-one out as Cam is doing what we expected Prince to contribute. Cam should remain and Rui or Vando should replace Prince.

edit: looked it up. he has a player option for next season. same for wood and hayes. looks like hayes will be the only one picking up his option, lol

Again, another multi-steal game, including another backcourt inbounds steal that led to an AD score. He had the Van Vleet assignment (15 points on 5-14 shooting).
That got tricky when our bigs would sag too far back in drop coverage and not provide help. But good energy from Cam, which we’ve got to have with those starters on that defensive side.
He’d make one much-needed three off a Bron kickout.
The Stats: He scored 7 points on 3-9 shooting (1-5 from three) to go with 3 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals, 1 turnover and 2 fouls in 39 minutes. He was a +12.

Prince can play some backup 2 minutes especially with Vincent out.
I'd actually be interested to see what the Lakers look like with DLO/ AR/ Cam/ Bron/ AD. DLO & AR looked fine when Rui or Vando were at the 3. I think Cam brings more of that athleticism and physicality that the DLO/AR/Prince grouping totally lacked.

But that can only happen when Vincent is back.

Will be interesting to see if the Lakers play Cam and Vando at the same time. Not a lot of offense, but the defense could be stifling.
