The Lakers are waiving Christian Wood to sign Len, sources tell ESPN.

this has that AD saying he was ok after the first game with Dallas vibes...

Spot on lol

AD just trying to win one more and I could see him going on permanent chill mode. DPOY would be the last trophy he’d want

CWood never put together a long stretch of good health. Unfortunately , this could be it for him

Hopefully he stays around the team. Might be an option to sign on last day of regular season.

Never liked his attitude and to not be available for even one game this season... and he hasn't played a game in a year?

Come on... short of an ACL tear there's no excuse if you're a pro.

Buh BYE Wood!

I mean, not his fault. He did have surgery last March and then a second surgery in September, 7 months later. I just don't know why it took 7 months to know the first surgery sucked. I feel he has a bad knee that may never be the same again....

But wasting a roster spot when its clear he's not coming back is why we needed to waive him for Len.

Question: If no one else signs Wood this season, would we be allowed to sign him this summer?

Yes because he was an expiring contract already.

Yep…and if he remains unsigned, we would also have his early bird rights, which could pay him as much as ntpMLE type money. Now I’m not saying that’d be a good idea, but it’s definitely a wrinkle we could exploit, in say a S&T type construct to bring back unrealized cap we wouldn’t have, seeing how we don’t have cap space and would only have the ntpMLE as our only means of adding to the cap sheet (via favorable trade multiplier) if we were to be hardcapped at the 1st Apron.

Also, we could use our ntpMLE to trade a 13-14m player into, however we can’t aggregate that with other salaries as we could with a S&T scenario using our FAs.

Seriously. Between Ham's sporadic minutes last season and the injuries this season we never really got to see what he could bring.

I read earlier it was Reddish that was getting waived.

Prob gets waived for Goodwin later? Although idk Reddish is playable for a few min as PoA if you have Luka just doing superhuman things on offense?
Wood was a good signing in theory, shame it didn't work out in practice

Can't say I'm going to miss him. Too bad he couldn't stay healthy, but he wasn't exactly a world beater when playing either.

Which is why if you were going to waive him for anyone, it shouldn't be Alex 'been a garbage time player for the last 3 years' Len..

Luka and Christian also had chemistry...

Alex Len isn't better than this.

We have no use for a player that won't be able to play this year.

He was targeting a late February, Early March return. Which would have been on schedule. And Len is unnecessary. We have Koloko and Jemison to do whatever we could ask Len to do, and Koloko is a better prospect at that. By the time their games were up we'd have known Wood's condition and if we needed could sign one of the two-ways and waive someone in order for them to play.

Taking Len and losing Wood was unnecessary and Len is a major downgrade.

"He" being the key word here. Perhaps the FO knew he won't be ready. By the time the playoffs start I'd rather have a guy who has been sparingly getting minutes and staying in game-shape than a guy who hasn't played more in a year.

If they didn't know that and Wood does indeed return shortly, then I'm just as baffled as you are.

Im neutral on this one. Wood does have a long wingspan and is a much better rebounder than the other 6'8 or 6'9 guys we have

We didn’t apply for a Wood DPE, which would have been valued at 1.52m and does not prorate down like other exceptions do. You can only for one if your med staff believes and can prove that it is not likely that can return by June 15th of that season.

If that’s the case, it’s possible the reason we did not apply for one earlier in the season is cause he was projected to likely return well before that June 15th date.

We also wouldn't have wasted it on a minimum level guy and saved it in case a higher paid guy went down.
