So we have some significant changes in player capabilities on D.
We have one of the most lanky and mobile front courts and Lebron.
We don't have an over the screen chaser since we lost Dennis.
We like to have Vando as an on-ball chaser.
Seems to me that drop coverage doesn't really play to the strengths of this team as well as last year.
Assuming drop will still be the "primary," what schemes would you like to see added as secondary?
I'm sure switching will get some run, but I would love to see zone looks in AD lineups.
AD/Woods/Christie/AR in box with Vando as a chaser?
AD/Rui/Prince or Vando /AR/Dlo in a 2/3-ish scheme where Dlo is switching instead of navigating screens? |

I'd like to see (at times) pressure defense. Shadow the other team's ball-handler as he brings the ball upcourt.
I also wonder, since we have length and should be able to switch, if we can use a trap defense at times when we really want to up-tempo the game.
I really want us to make teams react to us instead having us respond to other teams on D. _________________ Lakers 49ers Chargers Dodgers |

Reaves/ Reddish/Prince/Vando/AD has potential to be the best defensive lineup in the league. All are over 6'6 and quick to switch on guards and strong enough to guard power forwards minus Reaves. |

Wood needs to be paired with AD or Vando at all times. |

The key is your PnR strategy. If you’re in a two big formation, defending the PF with Davis, you probably want the other big to hedge because that eliminates the switch mismatch and Davis is eating up defensive space behind the play. That requires the guards to fight over the screen, which Reaves and Vincent do well. Russell is going to have to work at that this year to keep his minutes up, but he has the requisite size.
If you’re in a one big lineup, if that’s Davis you probably mix drop and switch, depending on the opponent and game situation. That’s because our rim protection is poor if Davis gets pulled too far out. Max grades out as a good rim protector, reacting quickly in rotation, making himself tall on the contest, and rebounding well to close out plays. I think more minutes from him are going to be a key to some aspects of our defense. Vando also scores well in this area.
One of the keys to the season will be how we handle the non Davis minutes defensively, both when he sits and when he’s unavailable. Do you play LeBron with Wood and three defenders? Do you have all bench units where you’re trying to outscore the opponent? It will be interesting to see what Darvin does there. _________________ Charter Member:

Well, not all are "over 6'6" (Reaves) but point made. Our offense won't be a problem at all, it's our defense that will determine how far we go. |
